I’m looking for a new TV for around £500. Recently got a new Hisense washing machine and I’m very impressed with it, in particular the ability to control it from the app and the energy efficient eco mode that’s saving a small fortune in electricity. Any thoughts on this:

At the price points, Hisense and TCL will be better far better, than what you would get from the competition, where you would pay at least double the price for similar featurers. I’ve said many a time, you can’t go wrong with Hisense or TCL, who use to make Samsung panels. Importantly is your looking to upgrade to the latest tech (mini LED)
Are you stuck at £500? The U7Q (£674) Pro sits just below the flagship U8Q and “U” being the flagship range compared to “E” series, which is similar to TCL’s “P” series and are cut down versions.
What do you watch?
Do you watch more than 28-30 degrees off axis or looking headon to the TV?

No 🤣
I worked at my uncles Pansonic sales and repair shop and could have taken it over when he died, but with those blasted capacitors, there was less chance of getting a shock going into industrial and commercial electrics and as I love electronics, qualifing at 16 through my uncle, I stayed upto date. I discussed this in depth in my TV thread, when @menorcamike was looking to have a new TV in times gone by.

I probably view it at around 20 degrees off center. Good call about the next model up but I’ve already bought it, couldn’t resist the £100 off and 6 year warranty. Samsung curved around 8 years old has got flares rising from the bottom, finally had enough. I am impressed with the Hisense washing machine we got.
Mostly watch YouTube, Netflix, Prime and very little terrestrial tv.

I take great pleasure spending other peoples money 🤣 However, you will be fine and probably more than you need for HD content etc and will upscale to nearly 4k anyway.
Its got a VA panel, so 20 degrees offset will be fine.
Did you get it from you local RS or having it delivered?
I got a TCL C7k for bedroom last year and it makes my £2k LG OLED picture look dull!
May 5, 2026 at 6:27 pm #354935Ordered online, been buying from Richer Sounds since the 90’s. Got my first surround sound amp from them, a Yamaha DSPA590. The 6 year warranty is great.

Not sure about recording from the internet or whether freely supports recording tbh however, the TV has the major apps for catch up.
Is your freeview box recordable?
A

I have a 2TB Freesat box, but hardly use it. I could get rid of it if you can record from Freely to USB.

May 5, 2026 at 9:40 pm #354946Worth trying for sure, but can’t say yes or no whether it will work and if I edged my bets, I’d say 60-70% no.

Try these for basic picture settings

Cheers Kezo I’ll have a look at that. It’s coming tomorrow. There was 4 delivery options, free delivery which was quoted as within 7 days and 3 other options which all cost £20. I opted for the free delivery but it’s only taking 2 days for delivery. They’ve sent me a receipt with my 6 year warranty.

Both RS & Costco are fab with warranties and my go to stores.
Let me know if settings need tweaking more…
May 7, 2026 at 11:40 am #358695It arrived, picture is amazing, last tv was a Samsung 4k, this Hisense one kicks its arse. The sound is awesome too, seems to have more bass, it does say it has a built in subwoofer. I’m really impressed. If anyone is in the market for a new 55” tv, you can’t go wrong with this model £500 using the voucher from Richer Sounds.

May 7, 2026 at 12:12 pm #358696Has I said can’t go wrong with Hisense or TCL, both manufacturers punch well above there weight across the board.
The sub is at the back top centre.
You will get a better the picture if you change the setting.
Don’t forget pics 🙂
May 7, 2026 at 12:44 pm #358697Really impressed with freely, think it uses a mix of aerial and internet, BBC works when the aerial is unplugged but Sky News doesn’t. I’ve noticed the picture on my Firestick is a bit warmer, it could be the YouTube channel I’m watching.

May 7, 2026 at 12:53 pm #358698Looks good, does tv have youtube app?
May 7, 2026 at 12:59 pm #358699Yes the YouTube on the tv is more vibrant than the Firestick, going to have to play. It’s got apps I’ve never heard of, lots of instant access buttons for them.

May 7, 2026 at 1:08 pm #358700First image is Prime on Firestick second is Prime on tv, you can see tv is cooler and seems more vibrant.

May 7, 2026 at 1:15 pm #358702If not dones so, change basics as in video and go through picture mode settings – standard-filmaker day/night – theatre etc, decide if one is better than rest.
Check hdmi port setting or try another port.
It will take a while watching different content before you settle on best settings.
May 7, 2026 at 1:31 pm #358704What is picture like on your freesat box?
May 7, 2026 at 3:21 pm #358711Freesat seems more neutral but less sharp.

May 7, 2026 at 4:24 pm #358745HDMI ports 1 & 2 are version 2.1 / Ports 3 & 4 are version 2.0, whils’t backwards compatible its worth try port 3 or 4.
What HDMI settings have you got (pic)
May 7, 2026 at 4:30 pm #358747Ensure freesat is set to 4k 144 not HD 1080p, same with firestick though less important unless jailbroke.
HDMI cable, how old are they.
