I picked up my Motability car on Thursday last week, when I got home I found manufacturing paperwork in the glove box, and the paperwork clearly said a different model to which I had paid for, the model that I paid for has a completely different spec to the one that I have driven away with, also on top of this when checking the car that I had hoped for on the Motability website, I can see that the advanced payment for the same model on the day that I collected this new one had decreased by £700. I have had insurmountable difficulties with the dealership, that I am currently with, as I have ordered the same car, as I have had previously, they have been discriminatory and rude on numerous occasions. I hope you can please understand why I am reticent to contact them first because all trust has been lost. Can somebody please advise me of what I should do and how I can get this rectified. Thank you in advance

What car and spec did you order and what spec did you receive.

If you have evidence that you have been “duped” then contact Motability asap.

Wrong model besides I don’t think there’s anything you can do about the reduced AP (£700) because the AP is set at the rate of the day of ordering.

Some dealers will reduce the rate to the current rate if it goes down between the order date and collection date however once the car has been signed for there nothing anyone can do.

Regarding reduced AP, our previous car 4 1/2 years ago I think we paid £1200 AP, when we collected it came down to £900, I wrote to Motability complaining as it happened the lease before as well, they refunded us the difference. Not sure if they’ll do it now but it’s worth 15 minutes writing a letter to the CEO.

Didn’t you check the car over before putting your PIN in on collection day? If they have supplied a different model to that stated on your order I’d be straight onto MB and the dealership.

The reduction in AP is more clear cut, it was up to you to be aware of the change when it happened and to have requested the dealer cancel and re-order at the new AP. Although they’re not obliged to do so.

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

Having been on the scheme 30-years this year and 11 cars later, my No.1 rule on collection day is always always always walk around the car to check for dings, dents, scratches & that the vehicle is the exact same model & spec that you’ve ordered. Only then enter your PIN number when you’re happy.

Some dealers genuinely get it wrong occasionally. Others will try and pull a fast one. Most are honest & decent I’ve found. But remember ; the onus is always on you to do the above.

Agree with Wardy, you should have checked before putting entering your PIN or at the very least spoken to dealer and Motability, as soon as you came across the paperwork when you got home. Delaying contacting imo may proove exceptence.

I would without delay email the CEO, explaining the situation and that your not happy that the supplying dealer did not make you aware of this when collecting and you have overpaid by £700 for a lesser model your not happy with and what you would like the outcome to be. andrewmiller@motabilityoperations.co.uk

                      Completely agree with WardyGTC.

Please go back to the dealership to sort it out. If necessary ask to see a different salesman or the sales manager.

Another concern is that you may not be insured to drive this particular model if Direct Line have the details of the one you should have had !

I’ve ordered a Tiguan match 2 L TDI and the paperwork and the alarm system says that I have a Tiguan life

You have a lower spec model than you ordered, so it may be lacking in certain equipment that you wanted.

As above, it does need sorting out and I think Motability will just direct you back to the dealership.

I think the 2 L TDI mach is also known as the Tiguan life .

Does your vehicle have keyless entry, rear privacy glass, electric tailgate.

The life trim does not have any of above and is not even available on motability not unless it has been recently removed.

@shamrockgirl3 Is this your first Motability car…

were you aware of the ..  tapping in your PIN number situation..

Or checking over all is as it should be, or did you just trust the experts to order the correct car..

I believed that I had ordered a 2.0 litre Tiguan Match, and the dealer sent me the online brochure, nearly every two weeks during the order period, with the standard spec and features on it, which do not match what I have received!

If none of the above are on your vehicle then you have been given the Tiguan life and apart from you paying for the better trim level I believe the life is not even on the scheme.

The Tiggy Life was on the scheme from Q3 2024 until Q4  2025. Given the build times yes it would be on the scheme when the OP ordered.

Hopefully it gets resolved. But its always good to check your order online and that the motability car reference number matches your order sheet.
