Tyre life Vs Tyre allowance.

      Hi All.

      I drive a VW ID3 Max.

It came with Bridgestone Turanza tyres which at the time seemed to have less tread depth than other new tyres.

At 7500 miles they needed replacing, Kwik fit fitted exactly the same tyres.

The front tyres lasted 15000 miles. Plus another set of rears.

So over 3 years and 30000 miles with no tyre damage the car will get through around  12 tyres!

I hear I must drive like a boy racer, nope, I drive just like all the other cars I have driven. In a manor best for fuel economy. I will admit that from time to time I use the full acceleration when overtaking and joining motorways.

My miles per kilowatt is hovering around 4.

So my concern is with the new proposal for number of tyres during a lease that Motability will supply.

It seems Motability customers with an EV may well have to plan for tyre purchases during the lease.

I had the same car but only for a year. And with 8k on the clock I didn’t notice any significant or unusual tyre wear. Having said that, I completely agree with you – most EV drivers might consider having a slush fund for tyres.

My current car (Enyaq) has had one tyre replaced due to a puncture, but otherwise they are holding out okay.

Enyaq Sportline 85X – at 2yrs and 12,000 miles I had 3 tyres down to 3mm and rear drivers side at 5mm ????

Again these are Bridgestones, 20″ Turanza ECO, awful tyres, poor grip in wet and none at all in 2mm of snow!  Also had them on my previuos Ateca (19″) same poor grip.

Hoping they last until the end of my lease (12 Jan 2027)

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

We’ve got Hankook on our Enyaq 85, done 14k, rears are on 4mm and fronts 4.5mm. I do notice the back end can slide out a little when cornering at speed. I end up doing a scandi flick.

On the other end of the scale 2 tonne Suzuki Across SUV 19,266 miles good for another 15,000 plus

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

On the GTE we had, from factory, Bridgestone Potenza – they lasted 5k.

Bridgestone just seems to be awful all around. They didn’t offer much grip (neither in wet nor dry), nor did they last long – and they had considerable road noise.

Got replaced with Conti Sport Contact 5 at the time, much better tyre – more grip, better braking and noticeably quieter.

Current car on Pirelli P-Zero, 4k miles and as far as i can tell, well over 4mm still. Grip great in the dry, in the wet it’s a bit of rallying (first time caught me out, now it’s fun), braking is.. okay, not great in the wet (but then it’s a heavy EV, may be part of it).

Your driving “style” is only part of it, the road surface is another. If you predominantly drive on rough/bad surface, it’ll wear quicker obviously.

Skoda Enyaq 85x SportLine,  46,000 miles. 7 tyres replaced (8th maybe tomorrow,  subject to Kwik Fit).

                  I would say 90% I drive on M roads.
