Hi we currently have a Skoda Fabia on the scheme for my grandfather who i live with and my father is also a named driver but he lives literally lives around the corner from us and we usually park the car outside his house as we can never find parking on our road. A month ago we received a call from motability saying the car is not being used to benefit my grandfather as the car is not being parked outside our house but if they would check the tracker they would see the car starts outside my fathers and comes to my house where i pick my grandfather but the letter they sent said the location from the tracker is only recorded when the car is turned on and off so we dont know what to do. The car is usually used in the night to take my grandfather on long drives as he suffers from depression, anxiety and insomnia along with issues with his hip so he likes going out at night to avoid people seeing him leave the house and so there are less people around which gives him peace of mind. i just need advice as drives and appointments whenever we have any which is what we use the car for and are now worried if the car will be taken from us as it is seen as being misused if you have any advice on what we should do please respond. thank you

Personally, in any situation,  I only talk once.  If the answer is ridiculous,  I write a complaint letter.  This is what I would do in your case: write an official complaint to them first that Motability prevents your grandfather from using the vehicle as intended and of course explain the situation in details,  advising you will provide necessary medical information if requested.

If it were me – I would ring and speak to an actual person – I was unsure if you had managed to speak to someone or just received the letter.

I suspect if you do  – common sense will out – once explained they can decide if they need it in writing.

I do understand your anxiety – your grandfather is lucky to have you as chauffeur and carers – I hope it is resolved soon.

I would ask for a copy of the tracker record they have, as they could see the cars API heading data or as they say on a more basic level only see what you can see if the Fabia as an app, you can see where the car is when parked, no matter how far away. But you cannot see it while driving.

When you walk ro your fathers to get the car and drive back to collect your grandad do you park the car and go inside to collect you grandad, as this would trigger two parked events in engine off state. If on the other hand you drive round to your grandads and you wait in the car with the engine running whil’st  the engine remains running, because you can’t park, then the second parked event will not trigger! In this case you will need think carefully, how you will need to explain in full detail exactly what happens, without leavng yourself open and is best done in writing imo.

When you ordered the car did you make them aware the car will be parked outside your fathers (if you forgot, I would equally explain why to them)?

On the otherhand, if you are fiddling the system, they will eventually catch up with you.
