Shed1965Hi I totally agree it’s a real smart looking car and anyone who wants hybrid technology then Toyota really are the sensible choice their tech is proven and ultra reliable that’s why just about every taxi rank are full of Prius, where as some brands are only just beginning. If this car had a BMW badge on it some would be crazy with excitement or frothing at the mouth because it’s not on the scheme
March 13, 2020 at 9:09 am #109193Thanks Mitch I have a biggish dealer 5 miles away it looks stunning up close

Carl<p style=”text-align: left;”>I must agree with you mike, I had a look at this car in the showroom and it was very impressive indeed….. !

March 13, 2020 at 9:32 am #109198I’m trying to find the spec of the saloon has it got keyless ?
March 13, 2020 at 1:27 pm #109224No Mike, no keyless on the Icon, Icon Tech or Design models.
You can compare models on Toyota’s website to see what spec they have, click the Build your Corolla tab, click on Change Model & there are tick boxes to compare trims, once in the compare window you can change any of the 3 choices to any other Toyota available.
On the other models (hatch and estate) its available on the TREK and Excel trims, these trims are not sold by Toyota UK for the saloon, they top out at Design trim.
Toyota probably think the saloons are all going to end up as taxis/minicabs and don’t need high specs.
Might not be a big deal, the rest of the spec on the Design is very high & you do get push button start.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

PhiljbIt goes without saying it will be ultra reliable. so a sensible choice if you want to keep it for years and do high miles.
Not my cup of tea and dont they have that awful cvt gearbox.
March 13, 2020 at 4:03 pm #109244I bet it’s also got cheap interior plastics that every Toyota I’ve seen has got.
I don’t think BMW will lose much sleep over it.

Pop into your local Toyota dealership Elliot and sit in the new Corolla. I did just that today! The quality of materials used is very good indeed – very impressive – with lots of soft touch materials in the cabin. Still too much piano black plastic trim for my liking but hey, not a deal breaker. I defy anyone to sit in the new Corolla GR Sport and not be anything but really impressed!

March 13, 2020 at 5:58 pm #109253I’ve not sat in the Corolla but I was less than impressed when I sat in the Rav 4.
I would never have one due to the CVT gearbox.

Both Honda & Toyota make their own CVT gearboxes – and both are very good indeed – much better than Nissan’s awful Jatco CVT efforts. Toyota’s CVT in the Corolla is a eCVT which contains a ‘real’ 1st gear… good enough to get the 2.0l hybrid from 0-60 in 7.9 seconds. I think you just need to get used to a CVT and how to drive one. My current C-HR 1.2 turbo is a CVT and is lovely to drive. Just remember not to let your right foot push the pedal flat to the floor when pulling away!
March 13, 2020 at 7:34 pm #109258I once had a Hyundai i40 with a CVT and never again.

solento60. What does that do? Why is it bad?
I’m thinking of an Outlander but am put off by stories of the ‘box. We had a Grand Cherokee some years ago and it nearly killed us many times trying to pull out on roundabouts/junctions.
? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?
March 13, 2020 at 9:27 pm #109264Wayne it increases the noise of the gearbox

Ant<p style=”text-align: left;”>Corollas are good cars I’m sure, but round here every second taxi is one. Granted they are always the hatch or estate version though, and I agree the saloon looks smart. Not that I’ve ever seen one in the flesh.

March 14, 2020 at 7:41 am #109277Ant every other car around here is a BMW 3 series same on the motorway it’s full of them
March 14, 2020 at 3:05 pm #109315The CVT gearbox is a marvel of the modern age, it’s the fastest way to turn petrol into noise!

I have road tested the Outlander PHEV I was being influenced by the stories, after the road test all my fears had gone, the transmission was much smoother and better than our current Ford Kuga 6 speed Powershift, I placed an order.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

PhiljbIt’s smooth because it’s one continuous and not individual gears, notoriously noisy, poor mpg and horrible to drive, downhill can be particularly hairy as the cvt box gets confused and you don’t have the mechanical breaking of changing down a gear to help slow down.
Awful things.March 14, 2020 at 5:49 pm #109328It’s smooth because it’s one continuous and not individual gears, notoriously noisy, poor mpg and horrible to drive, downhill can be particularly hairy as the cvt box gets confused and you don’t have the mechanical breaking of changing down a gear to help slow down. I take it you have based your findings as an engineer
