For the return journey home, I managed around 3.7, but with heating on, average 60/65 mph in cold conditions I was happy, and I knew I had ample excess range. Once I return to a normal pattern of driving, I expect it will average in the mid 4’s
November 22, 2022 at 10:08 am #201114I am enjoying my new Kona, can’t see the colour when sat inside it. I have gone back through the thread looking for any settings that have been posted to see if I can work out why I am not getting above 4 miles per kWh and it is an impossible task to find it all.
So I would like to ask if we could put the information on one page:
What is your average power use during summer/winter?
Do you drive mostly on motorways/dual cariageways or town driving or a mixture of both?
How do you use the regen padels, set the regen level or change the regen dynamically?
If you have the regen set to one level, what is it?
Do you use auto regen (smart recuperation)?
What driving mode do you use?
Do you coast or always use regen?
Any other tips and tricks?
November 22, 2022 at 10:24 am #201115Hi me on wheels
My driving is mixed – from 20mph roads to motorways – I would say the majority is local and A roads – many of which are 50mph.
On longer motorway journeys ie 60 miles plus visiting family and friends I will max to 7o+ where conditions allow.
The four things that I believe contribute most to a good range are- I almost always drive in eco
- I have smart regen permanently on when not using smart cruise.
- My driving style is not aggressive – I will use strong acceleration for entering roundabouts or slip roads to increase distance and safety.
- I have wind deflectors fitted which along with heated / ventilated seats, steering wheel means I use a/c less.
I hope this is what you were asking for and that it helps – feel free to ask additional questions ?

I drive in ECO 90% of the time, however the difference between drive modes in terms of economy is very small, 1 or 2%, I find eco relaxing. Majority of driving on country roads and semi urban, I use smart regen and if its a long downhill let the car coast. I use the heater when needed. today for example its sunny so the cabin will be warm, so for a 3 or 4 mile trip I wont bother.

DebsDear All
My dealer put my order through for a Kona Electric Premium on 14 April 2022. I was promised November. I contacted them to see if there was an update last week only to be told that the car had been withdrawn from the scheme. I argued that the order was placed in April and the car withdrawn in September to no avail. I contacted Motability for some advice and they can’t find me on their system and there is no record of an order being placed.
I’ve asked the dealer to establish with Motability why my details didn’t transfer over to the Motability system but surely someone has to honour an order made 5 months before the car was withdrawn? As I understand it, the Kona Electric is still available on other leasing schemes, just not Motability.
November 22, 2022 at 1:46 pm #201133Hi Debs – sorry to hear about your predicament.
When I placed my order I was sent a confirmation email from the dealer.
I suspect you have already checked this – but there should have been some kind of response from dealer.
I ordered my care about 6 weeks before I officially could ie before the 3mths Motability set – when the 3mths was reached Motability confirmed order – so it might be worth checking back in April for anything from dealer – I also got copy of paperwork from dealer to show they had placed order before the Motability 3mths.I hope this helps and that you get a satisfactory outcome – good luck ?

DebsI’ve gone into this a bit blind and relied on the dealer to guide me as it was my first Motability car. I am pushing this issue with Hyundai so, fingers crossed.
November 22, 2022 at 4:15 pm #201141Hi @Debs Sorry to hear this.
It looks like a typical case, the dealer has sat on the order and then forgot/chose not to put the order through.
I take it you have an online account with Motability, in which case MB would have sent an accetptance of the order which is then shown on your online account.
November 23, 2022 at 11:38 am #201183Good morning all – I trust you are all as well as you can be.
I have just changed the battery in one of the key fobs – we have our key in a faraday wallet which when not being used is kept in a faraday box.
This maybe why the battery wasn’t strong enough to open car from pocket.
The change of the battery wasn’t as straight forward as many – so a quick picture guide as to the battery and how
tthis is the battery type CR2032
– once the key has been removed you will need a slotted screw driver to put in and twist anti clockwise just above the key slot

I had to twist twice to open completely and change battery – I know many of you will already know this – but thought it was worth a mention for those who may not ?
November 23, 2022 at 7:06 pm #201223Useful info, I believe the dealer will change the battery if necessary? Today I did one of my “usual” journeys. 60 miles in total, 35 going on Motorway and fast A roads and coming back 25 miles through rural roads with passenger one way and heating for the entire journey. OBC indicated 4.7 miles per kWh, a range of 300 miles. Again very impressive.

Ian+WebsellGood Evening All
Its good to see lots of you getting and then enjoying your new Kona’s. We have had ours 7 months now and loving it. Although the range is dropping and also the kWh is on its way down as well.
We went to Blackpool at the week end with heating set at 22c and cruising at 64mph the car returned 4.4kwh. This has dropped 5.8kwh in the warmer weather.
When I charged the car in the summer the highest range was 387 miles, on the last four charges the range has dropped to 345, 326,309 and then 295. I have spoken to the dealer, just reassure me and that’s correct, although he said I still higher than most of his other customers, who are now getting in the mid to low 200’s. Even with a 64kwh Kona.
Are anyone of you getting similar to me or better or lower ?I have found having the heater on around 22c is the most efficient way to keep warm, if you need it, both my wife and I do due to our health issues. But then turn it off once the car is warmed up, along with the heated seats and wheel.
I look forward to hearing from you and to see your results.Happy Motoring everyone. Stay safe. ????

Still getting reasonable mileage.

You must be devastated Debs, the fact that whatever the dealer does wrong, but neither the dealer nor Motability take responsibility, or even seem bothered is more than annoying. At least I ended up with a car, it wasn’t what I ordered but it was take it or leave it, your choice, nothing we can do. I really hope you get somewhere with your complaint to Hyundai, did you receive any paperwork or email confirmation when you ordered from the dealer? I had to sign for the car and Motability was contacted straight away to confirm I could order the car. Next time/big if I get a car through Motability, I will be demanding the order number as a minimum so that I can check what has been ordered and will be following progress closely, as this was my first Motability car, I just let the process happen and accepted that the car arrives when the car arrives, I can’t believe that is so matter of fact when something goes wrong.

Struth!! how are you getting those figures? Fixed or manual regen, 1,2,3 or auto, any coasting? Do you ever need to touch the brakes?
November 25, 2022 at 7:51 am #201310I have car ser on eco with level 2 regen and auto regen is also ticked, unless it’s really potentially icy. 99% of braking is via regen and left paddle. If I need to stop quicker I use foot pedal of course . I also will use the auto speed system when out with town, but often on a longish 30mph stretch too .it does the job without me needing to watch throttle etc. Tbh it will follow car and stop etc too, although I’m inclined to override that.
Car was preheated reducing need to use Aircon on journey. Outside temp was about 7c and it was light enough for sides only.

Last Car: Toyota C-HR Excel Hybrid...4 way 80kg hoistNovember 25, 2022 at 8:32 am #201311<p style=”text-align: left;”>Good info Struth – I do almost the same but I hadn’t realised you can have auto gen and paddle set to two at the same time – I also crack front windows open to demist even if raining as I have wind deflectors fitted – the speed limiter I also find very useful – many areas where my daughter lives are 20mph – very difficult to stick to even with hud ?

November 25, 2022 at 10:15 am #201315you can use the cruise control at 20. i used to when our rds were 20.. they are back to 30 now, although they may change again as they cant agree lol. a long term study in ireland suggests it doesnt help at all
Current Car: Hyundai Kona Premium EV...2 way 40kg hoist
Last Car: Toyota C-HR Excel Hybrid...4 way 80kg hoistNovember 25, 2022 at 10:17 am #201318Cruise control works at all speeds, however, the screen will show a minimum speed of 20mph, but if you are in slow moving traffic it will operate at any speed.
November 25, 2022 at 10:39 am #201325<p style=”text-align: left;”>I was referring to the speed limiter – not cruise control – when the limit is 20mph or roads I am unfamiliar with and I am looking for signs etc I find the limiter useful and quick to activate – so easy to speed and get done on speed camera – in case you are unaware of what I mean – screen shot below

Hope this is useful to some of you ?

November 25, 2022 at 1:28 pm #201338Been lurking in background for awhile enjoy this great thread, decided I should join up and do a post 🙂
Car = Hyundai Kona Electric Ultimate 64 kw (Motability order)
Order date = 10/8/22 (Hyundai Nottingham (Bristol Street Motors))
Motability “application has been submitted” email =14/8/22
Ordered “jungle green” but colour discounted so changed to “cyber grey” on 24/8/22Latest ETA (given on 25/11/22)
Production is estimated to be completed = 18/12/2022
Estimated to dock at Tilbury = 18/02/2023
“Then allow for 2-4 weeks before delivery to the Retailer”So, I am hoping I will get it between 04/3/22 and 18/3/22 🙂
I know Hyundai delivery estimates are poor and continually changing, but I am hoping as they say production of my car quite close, that their estimate won’t be too far off? Anyone got any experience how changeable delivery estimates are this close to production being complete?
Below are some links I collated, mostly from this thread and maybe useful to someone who does not wish to scroll back thought all the posts ?
Delivery estimate requests :-
You need an Order Number (I had to email my dealer to request, “begins with 1011, not your dealer order number”?)By email = customer.query@hyundai.co.uk (I used this and got an estimate back within 2 days)
By Phone = 0800 981 981 (Hyundai UK customer service)
Via dealer = if you purchased from helpful dealer, they should be able to get for you
Online (is Beta and did not work for me) = https://track.hyundai.co.uk/Sipping tracking:-
https://www.eukor.com/schedule-search (think enter Ulsan for departure and Tilbury for Arrival?)
https://www.vesselfinder.com/ (think can be used if know ship name?)Think best tariff for EV’s is https://octopus.energy/go/ ?
Awaiting Kona Electric Ultimate 64 kw Cyber Grey
Motability order placed = 10/8/22
Latest ETA = 16/3/23
(given 26/11/22, appears on track as of 24/1/23)
Approximately 7 months if accurate...November 25, 2022 at 1:38 pm #201342Excellent first post with lots of useful information. This thread is packed with useful information and opinions and it has just got even better.
