    Oft quoted – “Politics is showbusiness for ugly people”.  I have to declare I don’t find McVey attractive but she is easier to look at than most MPs

    We are now seeing many speeches and interviews from contenders as first vote approaches.

    Ten little Indian boys & girls went out to dine;
    One smoked pot , and then there were nine.

    Nine little Indian boys & girls sat up very late;
    One overstepped with the proroguing game and then there were eight.

    Eight little Indian boys & girls thought they were in Seventh heaven
    But one said ‘second referendum’ and then there were seven.

    Seven little Indian boys & girls chopping up sticks;
    A Liver Bird defended proroguing today and then there were six

    Six little Indian boys & girls going for a drive
    one of them mentioned TV Licences and then there were five.

    Five little Indian boys & Girls jaw jaw jaw
    One said extend the deadline then there were four.

    Four little Indian boys & girls going for a pee
    Standing only said the sign and then there were three.

    Three little Indian boys each of them true blue
    Another fell into deadline trap and then there were two.

    Two little Indian boys sitting in the sun;
    One promised utopia, heaven ,free this and free that ,and then there was one.

    One little Indian boy left setting there all forlorn
    In a big red bus , with £39b to spend , hair the colour of corn.

    I said last week that I would reserve my judgement of the contenders for PM until the list was confirmed. Since then I have been listening to what they say and what their supporters say and will continue to do so as the competition unfolds. And the news today is all about Boris.

    However to knock one off the list I have looked at Rory Stewart and conclude he is an idiot.

    I think after Thursday’s vote we will be down to just 4 or 5.

    It’s going to be an ‘all out effort’ from today, by some Tories, the Brexit Party, the EU , Labour, the SNP , the LibDems (each of whom/ which have their own agendas, to ‘stop Boris ‘) – but , it is unlikely to succeed?

    Boris is seen as a short term project in seeing off the EU, seeing off Corbyn and even seeing off the Brexit Party, but unlikely to be seen as a ‘long term project’ for/by  the Tories hierarchy?

    If Boris is offered to the Conservative Party membership, he will win. MPs will be looking at their careers, not the interests of the Party or the nation when it comes to choosing the final two.  Many backroom deals being done and promises made (to be broken later).

    Should get through to this stage?

    If you look at Tory leadership contests in the past, the favorite rarely wins. The EU, and recent by election, defeat/massacre have changed things. The Tories are looking at a wipe out at the next election, that really should be after they elect their next leader, so they are running scared.

    In these situations the correct decision is rarely taken, knee jerk comes to mind.

    Due to the popularity of this topic, and system limitation we’ve had to close this thread, and create a new (part 3) thread here –

    See you on the other side!
