Had a random text this morning from direct line saying outstanding excess due for claim in May.
Not had a claim so assumed it was a scam but all contact details are correct. Of course being Sunday I can’t contact anyone.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this.

I would contact Motability on Monday, not the DL
Sent from a mobile device.
Apologies for briefness and spelling mistakes.Motability Skoda Enyaq SportLine 85x April 2024 (unhappy customer, but won my case with Ombudsman)
Motability Mazda CX-60 PHEV July 2023 (unhappy customer - early termination on mechanical grounds)
Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)August 9, 2026 at 1:37 pm #376777do you have mobility account as look on there
August 9, 2026 at 2:35 pm #376779There’s nothing showing on MB account and also on DL there’s nothing showing under current or closed claims.
I daren’t just ignore it though. Everything pointed to it being a scam if it wasn’t for the contact details and info being so specific.
August 9, 2026 at 2:44 pm #376780its a scam then as anything should show there

August 9, 2026 at 2:59 pm #376784I don’t think it is, there’s no click on a link just to ring DL MB specific no.
So either they’ve mixed my details up with someone else or more worrying some arsewipe has somehow put in a claim but surely I would have been contacted.
I have got Ring camera footage showing my car on the drive for most of the day apart from about 45 .ins in morning and an hour late afternoon when I had to pick my son up.

An excess would only be due if claiming for damage to your own vehicle not third party damage. Sounds like a mistake somewhere along the line, hopefully sorted by a phone call tomorrow.
August 9, 2026 at 3:12 pm #376787As @kdwolf ring Motability first thing in the morning, not DLM and don’t forget to tell them the undue stress its caused!
Have you had a previous claim, where the excess wasn’t paid?

In 2013 I had an octogenarian decide not to bother braking when I stopped for oncoming traffic but was deemed no fault and it was all sorted.
And 2013 was well before DL took over surely.

Indeed, DLM took over from RSA on September 1st 2023 and its gone downhill ever since!
August 9, 2026 at 9:22 pm #376801Do all the above BUT also change your motability account password just incase. Because even with 2 step verification, people are cloning phone numbers.
We were getting this call, phoned it back and it was an 88 year old who had retired to Cornwall who hadn’t called nobody onhis mobile in 2 weeks !!

August 10, 2026 at 10:32 am #376803Turns out totally innocent in the end.
It relates to a windscreen repair excess of £50. I never knew repair had excess, thought it was only replacement.
I’d never had anything from Autoglass requesting money but they’d contacted Direct Line to reclaim. They then sent badly worded text with no details.
Just a bit of communication from all would have avoided all this.
In all of this I did see about Aviva (I think) taking over from December.

I also, never realized that there was an excess charge on a windscreen repair, it used to be only if the windscreen needed to be replaced. The idea, was that if you got it repaired (free of charge) it saved the cost of a new windscreen.

I would clarify that charge, as it doesn’t seem right. Typical of Motability not picking up on it!
“If your windscreen needs replacing, you’ll need to pay the excess. The cost of the repairs are included at no extra cost.”
MB recently increased the excess for windscreen replacement from £50 to £100, repairs have always been included and carry no charge!

August 10, 2026 at 1:04 pm #376810Have twigged and currently back and forth between MB & DLM.
Never realised how difficult it is to explain to so many people the difference between repair and replace.

Have you got an email address please Kezo?
I’m being passed from pillar to post and now been told to put in formal complaint with DLM.
I’ve just looked back and the repair I had was 9th October last year, their threatening text relates to 15th May this year.
P155 up and brewery come to mind.

Iclude name, address & account number and give a full explanation of whats happened and how your being passed from pillar to post. Don’t forget to give details on date of repair and ensure you specify it was a repair not replacement.
August 10, 2026 at 3:04 pm #376819I think that the standard and competence of the Customer Service call center staff, in recent times, is falling well short of what we have the right to expect from MB staff and I am starting to agree with @kezo, that if we are receiving sub standard and unacceptable service from them, then maybe we should be going through the Customer Service, at the first stage and if, they (in my personal experience), no longer seem able and willing to escalate the unresolved complaint, to a competent level of management and getting a solution.
Then, by that stage, we should be giving feedback by escalating the complaint, to the CEO’s office, not only about the original problem, but also about MB’s handling of the complaint.
I am quite sure that the CEO’s office should be recording the number of escalated complaints, that MB CS is failing to resolve for their paying customer’s, who are paying for a holistic service from MB, not only a car.
August 10, 2026 at 3:18 pm #376822Thanks Kezo

Well that stirred up a hornets nest Kezo
Within an hour of sending email to Andrew Miller yesterday I got a reply saying customer services has to be a priority and forwarded to Senior Account Manager in Solutions team who then called and emailed.
Have spoken to him today and he is investigating.
Had further phone call a few mins ago from guy who’s done the digging and seems like something really suss has gone on.
Won’t put details in ATM has ongoing but as soon as it’s resolved I’ll put details – really interesting and could potentially affect and help others.

Did you explain in the email, customer services sent you round in circles and advised you put a complaint in and effectively customer services were useless?
Well done!

I went through a whole list of failings and pointed out no one could actually give any details and that it was a shambles.
Also sending threatening texts with no details so you’re unable to work out what it was about – and especially at a weekend so you have to dwell on it with no way of speaking to anyone is unacceptable. If they’re able to send texts (automated or otherwise then there should be people to contact.
But if what I’ve been told today is confirmed then someone has been very naughty indeed.
As I said previously I’ll spill the beans once it’s sorted, don’t fancy a libel case 😀
