BrydoWith this virus only getting worse surely Motability will relax the two visit rule and allow us to go once to pick the car up.

But Brydo what about a test drive ?

DBtruthI wish there was a way to order a car from anywhere in the country without having to leave the house at all.
Maybe something along the lines of a video call to the dealer so they can comfirm your id and you could show your driving licence and entitlement letter etc to them. Once that’s confirmed then you could email copies of the relevant documents to them for their records.
Im not sure if something like that would work but I’d like to think the process could be made easier for the customer.

brydoMike the point is motability are forcing all of us to go to a showroom twice to secure your car. Many have already carried out their test drives prior to this virus appearing and many will be waiting for Q2 ready to choose. Motability forcing, and that’s the key word, the disabled to come to a potentially busy showroom twice, putting the most vulnerable at uncalled for risk, is a disgrace.
DBtruth I agree with your take on it and don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
March 22, 2020 at 12:47 pm #109880Only need to go once when ordering the car. A nominated driver can collect it.
March 22, 2020 at 1:18 pm #109882Looking at the way the media are panicking folk over the last few weeks I would say you will need to visit the dealer three times, once to order, once to collect and once to return the car after 3 years with 10 miles on the clock.?

BeauI spoke to Motability about this mid last week as we were going Thursday to order the car in person as per the rules.
They said we still had to do it for now but its possible this may change temporary due to the current circumstances.

DanteMy dealer was very kind and took my order via email and scanned documents etc… just pre covid19 –
as I was in too much pain to drive the 70 mile round trip & all now sorted & in process now – delivery end of April 🙂

RaceCatt@Brydo Interestingly enough I’ve heard CarWow has added an option to their website for those who are in a similar position and wanting to still buy.

brydoIs that correct wigwam as it opens up the whole of Scotland and a good chunk of England to me for discounts. The wife is not really well enough to travel long distances but I am happy to travel up to four hours each way if its a good deal.
March 22, 2020 at 4:13 pm #109899It’s what we did Brydo, on the last handover. Mrs W couldn’t make it so I went alone with the PIN paperwork, ID etc..

PhiljbInteresting I thought the disabled person had to be present to complete the check list and make sure it was suitable.
March 23, 2020 at 7:46 am #109935From the Motability Coronavirus info page:
I am due to collect my new vehicle, but I am self-isolating, what should I do?
In these exceptional circumstances, if you are unable to attend your dealership to collect your new vehicle you can give consent to a family member or friend to collect the car and enter the PIN on your behalf.
The family member or friend must be a named driver so they are insured to drive the car away. If you need to add them as a named driver please contact your dealership prior to the collection date to arrange this.
When collecting the car they will need to take your PIN letter with them to the dealership, if they do not have the PIN letter then the dealer will call you to get your consent.
Alternatively, you can contact the supplying dealer to rearrange your collection. They will be able to move your collection date which will automatically extend your current lease.
