So, my Enyaq is due for return in February and if I choose to, I can order from November

Looking at my mileage since retiring, my current car has only done 7k in total and I personally think the extra deposit/Ap for a full ev isn’t worth ut with my miles.

So I have decided either a PHEV ot petrol is on my list now

Today we went and had a look at the BYD seal U, a much better looking car and size than the sealion 5, so have arranged for a test drive on Tuesday of the seal u

Next, went to the Geeley dealers and had a test drive unsupervised, of the Starray,

Very nice, comfortable and quieter than I thought it would be.

Next vist was to my Skoda dealer where I got my Enyaq from.

Well, shocked. They are in the process of becoming a Chery dealership and will become a service centre only for Skoda cars already bought,

It means my closes actual showroom is now 21 miles away as the next closest has also become a service centre only.

Had a test drive of tte Chery Tiggo 7 Aspire, again unsupervised.

That test drive lasted ren minutes as both of us found the seats totally uncomfortable, lije there was a bar running down the centre of the sewts and I started getting a dead leg. Also, the car was rattly and noisy. This was a brand new car, still with covers and wax crayon on the glass

Took the xar back and the dealer wasn’t surprised, as he knew the seats were awful and he found the ones he drove noisy too!

Went into Volvo dealer and awaiting a test drive of the XC 40 petrol

Last two to rest drive are the skoda Kodiaq and the hyundai Tucson PHEV

      A smaller list than before

Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Kodiaq. We have one currently and are dreading having to return it as there is practically nothing on scheme that fits our needs. Geely Starray I was looking at so pleased to hear it’s comfy and quiet, but according to my research the boot space is half that of the Kodiaq so probably wouldn’t be able to accommodate all our bits and bobs

Yes, the boots of both the starray and seal u are smaller by a mile, but have the height we need for the two golden retrievers. The XC 40 is again, much smaller, but just enough height.

I’m expecting the kidiaqto drive very well, I’ve never had an ussue with any Skoda except when I had an Octavia and as my leg issues got worse, lifting leg over and into the seal became an issue, as the seat sits below the door sill

Have you looked at the nussan x-trail?

We did online, not in person. My partner needs to occupy the middle seat in whatever car we have so she can tend to our daughter who is non verbal with special needs. Alot of cars tend to not only make the middle seat smaller than the outers, but they also add a ridiculous arm rest feature which the X Trail has, and from the pictures it showed a large cylindrical bulge right where my partner’s lower back would be, so it fell off our radar for that

The Hyundai Tucson PHEV is not as good as the super hybrids coming through from China. Beyhond the 35 mile EV range, its not very economical howevery there’s a new model being released next spring.

Our current Suzuki Across PHEV, we would have loved a 24 month but after a bit of a fight only managed a 12 month extension until August 27, ideally we would love another Suzuki Across but not at £6,999 and a 3 year lease. We took the jump and settled for a Skoda Enyaq 85 SEL, but thanks to Mr Putin not quite sure whether Skoda will cancel our order.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

If it means anything, the XC40 has had a very light facelift. You can find videos on youtube.

Dimensions are the same, just a slight fresh up exterior wise. The Swedish Volvo site lets you spec it, UK site still has the old look.

So, next set of cars driven/looked at.

First off was a test drive of the BYD Seal U, supposed to be tte Boost spec. Nice drive, the wife liked the drive, felt it was slightly better than the starray.quite nippy too.

When we got back, opened the boot to see size and key etc, I noticed on tge boot lid was an “AWD” badge. No wonder it was nippy! Salesman apologised he had given us the wrong car lol, so will have to arrange a further teet in the right cat

Next was the Volvo XC40. B4p this is the wife’s favourite choice, me, feels a bit small and the centre screen is very small. But as she is now my driver, as the damage to my eyes and consultant has told me nit to drive.

Finally, skoda Kodiaq booked in for two weeks time, along with the Hyundai Tucson 2wd

I had a test drive in a top spec starray and I found it horrible to drive. It was like the accelerator wasn’t calibrated properly and needed different inputs for the same result. Very odd but it was spacious enough and being top spec was full of goodies. We took it back after 15min during our 1 hour test drive window 😂. Shame as we like the outside
