Hi all

Looking for some valued advice! Going through some tough choices with regard to my daughter’s treatment plan for her brain tumour and just don’t have the headspace to delve deep, so thought I’d ask here to see if any of you can help!

We currently have a 66 plate Audi Q3 – S line Plus 2.0 TDI Quattro 184 PS S tronic – and it should have been changed over a year ago. We have very much enjoyed having the Q3. At the time the AP wasn’t a problem for us and we even added a Panoramic roof and reversing camera as optional extras (£££)!!

We would like something similar but the APs have certainly gone up quite a bit over the past 4 years or so, and as it is for most of us, the pandemic has hit our finances hard.

We’ve so far shortlisted the XC40, Sportage & now the Q3 as it has popped back up on the scheme.

We have a need for a panoramic roof because in daylight it is important that we throw as much light in to the car as possible. Our daughter has extremely limited vision, light helps and makes her more comfortable in her surroundings – sadly Motability don’t see this as an ‘adaptation’ like they would for other disabilities that require vehicle adaptations such as wheelchair users etc. To Motability having a panoramic roof is a luxury. We would also like an AWD vehicle as our road isn’t gritted in the winter months and sometimes we also visit fairly rural locations.

Adding a panoramic to a 2021 Q3 or a 2021 XC40 can be almost as much as the AP!

We have test driven the Volvo XC40, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 (when it was available on scheme) and the Kia Sportage… out of this the XC40 came out as our favourite but it is financially out of our reach, second was the Sportage. The Q3 wasn’t available at the time but we feel it too is financially out of our reach.

So it comes down to the Kia Sportage as everything we need is pretty much included!

What are people’s opinions of their Sportage’s, what don’t you like? What do you love?

We are specifically looking at the KIA SPORTAGE ESTATE 1.6T GDI GT-LINE S 5DR DCT AUTO [AWD]

      Help (please)!

Had the Audi Q3 – S line Plus 2.0 TDI Quattro 184 myself, had to change it early for an Auto. Swapped it for an BMW X1 2.0 D Sport D AWD 2 years ago. Love the car. Even more than the Audi. Not sure if it will be on the scheme in the 2nd quarter. If it is and it is affordable that would be my 1st choice.

The Kia Sportage has a good reputation, more importantly to you is how practical and comfortable is it. If it ticks the boxes I’m sure you will be happy with it.

We decided on a 1.6 petrol Sportage 4 last time and would not choose it again.

I guess everyone and their needs can be very different but here are my pros/cons

          Pros

Plenty of room, really spacious inside

          Enjoy the high driving position

          Good size boot

Quite a number of ‘extras’ included which came as standard. These would have been charged as additional add on in other SUVs

          Cons

IMO the finish in the interior is quite cheap looking and feeling

          Leather seats throughout are uncomfortable

Rather dull to drive, 1.6 feels underpowered

Some of the included extras are really poor quality, eg rear reverse parking camera. In fact I think the cameras are poor full stop

In built Kia Sat Nav is pants

MPG is pretty awful, expensive to run

After care Service from Kia has been awful but that might be dealer specific

We have a manual transmission and the gear box is clunky, steering notchy

Happy to answer any specific questions or queries you might have?

Thanks tvs – I don’t think the X1 comes with a Panoramic, nor does it have reversing camera as standard (please correct me if I’m wrong). £1k for the panoramic as an extra! £900 for the pack that has the reversing camera (from looking at BMW website). Ouch!

Thanks John – great response, I too thought the Kia had a cheap interior but the ‘extras’ kind of won it for me, especially compared to others at that level of AP, and out of the cars we did test drive. Really appreciate all your pros and cons. We would be going for the auto and I too think that our Kia dealer (West London) is far from helpful / responsive and we are only at the investigative stage… you’d think they would be keen for the business, but instead seem far from enthusiastic! Initially this doesn’t bother me as it won’t necessarily be that person we would be dealing with for serving etc. Not a good start though!

I think we’ll take a look at the Tiguan as suggested here by Mark and then make a decision. Ultimately I’d like to keep the AP as far south of £4k with all the bits we’d like!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Yes I agree the Tiguan is in a different league to the Sportage and the Elegance model is a bargain with the amount of equipment it has as standard. Some cars you can pay nearly £2000 for a panoramic roof.

                      Hi

have you seen the MG hs exclusive it has a panoramic sunroof as standard, and has a lot of bells and whistles for the price its 799AP, but it looks to be going down to 699 in Q2

Sorry for opening up this old thread again but just wanted to thank you for all your suggestions, especially Mark & Mike. We took delivery of our Tiguan on the 27th July and considering the recent changes to the Motability scheme vehicle availability, we are very lucky to have done so it seems. So far extremely happy with the car!
