Small Bump Insurance

Someone just reversed into me, their fault. Really minor damage, little dent on plastic bumper. Do Direct Line offer smart repair? We’re really reluctant to let the car go in garage.

Also, no doubt their insurers will ring me to let them handle the work. What’s Direct Line and Motability’s policy regarding this?

It will still count as an insurance claim. So if you leave the scheme at all, it will in all probability affect your private car insurance.

If is slight just see if you can get it fixed yourself?

Whilst you are correct and I do need to disclose it, the amount they charge is negligible. Had it last time I had a private car, someone went into the back of me, totally their fault and my insurance went up about £30 a year. Going ahead with the claim as I noticed the bonnet shut gaps aren’t even which suggest slightly more damage.

Have you received a call from the Third Party insurer since posting the subject?

Whats the damage on the at fault parties vehicle?

Have you priced a smart repair and seen if the Thid Party wants to foot the bill rather than going through insurance? If the damage is that minor on both cars, the insureing companies  can still go the knock for  knock where claims are minimal and similar value to save costs, even though one side was clearly at fault.

Theres a chance, if you report damage through the online form and submit picturers, DLM comming back saying it don’t need repairing and won’t impact you GCB. This would be especially true if you’d reversed into a wall with no other party involved, as it saves costs.

@kezo Their insurers didn’t contact me, damage to their car was a scuff.

Although dent on bumper was minimal it was hit with quite a bang and the bonnet not sitting right so I was worried more than just the bumper.

I’ve put the claim on an Direct Line who messaged and said they don’t believe I’m liable and will seek full expenses from the other driver, also said I don’t need to pay excess and can have a hire car from Enterprise, who were going to deliver one today but told them I don’t want it yet. Waiting for the garage to assess, the car has hand controls and we want it in and out asap.

Its easy to check how it affects you, just do a compare the market for  5 years ncb, which you get from dlm (that is what i got a couple of monthS back). Then do the same estimate with 1 years ncb, and see how much it  costs. It nade a £200 difference to my quotes. Easy peasy to check
