Skoda Enyaq Regeneration In B Mode

I always drive the car in B mode, it always had quite heavy regen. The car has just been in for a repair and the regeneration in B mode has changed, it’s not as heavy, it would almost come to a stop, now it’s really light.  I can’t seem to get it back to how it was.

Everything I’m reading says you can’t adjust regen in B mode, but it was definitely stronger than it is now, I’m not imagining it. Anyone else drive in B mode, what’s the level of regen like?

Tried changing between D & B several times over the last 2-1/2 years and never found any difference in overall efficiency so just use D.

However, yes, B mode has very noticeably heavier deceleration, I would have said maybe a software update while in for repair but I’m now on the latest (for mine) 5.6.4 and it’s not made any difference.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

I’m convinced the guy who dropped the car off was buggering about in the settings, he tuned it to his favourite radio station. Our software version is 5.4.4 but it says update coming soon.

Did you have eco assist disabled and set a stronger regen using the paddle prior

I had a play with eco assist but that only changes things in A mode. I’ve been looking in the internet and a few people on various forums are saying the same thing, they are convinced the regen level in B mode has changed.

driving mode has a custom menu- is there anything in there for region- I know that steering feeling and stuff like that can be changed in that menu

I wouldn’t be without B mode. I hardly ever use the brakes!

There’s a couple of settings in eco assist but they only change A mode. Really getting annoyed now as I can’t get it to how it was.

The next Enyaq (MY27) will have a two-stage B setting, capable of bringing the car to a full stop – all current Enyaqs are non-adjustable in B, it’s supposed to be simply the flat-out strongest regen setting – so there’s nothing you can do on that front other than “putting it in B”, there’s no adjustments.

I had a play with eco assist but that only changes things in A mode. I’ve been looking in the internet and a few people on various forums are saying the same thing, they are convinced the regen level in B mode has changed.

This is correct, but likely not applicable to your Enyaq. The update in question was ME3.0, which indeed changed the “B” behaviour – but that was a few years ago, Skoda hasn’t (officially) touched it since. Unless you have a MY23 car that you never updated (and now got updated in the service), that wouldn’t explain it.

Assuming that your car was always SW4/5 (the later updates), the only thing that would change the behaviour of “B” is battery state. Regen is reduced on very cold (unlikely currently) or highly charged batteries.

If your battery is at, say, 60% and you don’t have “normal” regen, then the issue is probably not software related.

May i ask, what was repaired/replaced? A new motor/inverter, ABS/wheel speed sensor, battery components etc would all be a potential indicator as to why it feels different/worse.

What you could do is call the garage, ask what exactly has been done to the car, in particular listen for updates to control units, whether or not the motor was flashed/recoded etc. Basically, check if they did any “firmware updates”.

If not, i’m afraid, this is one of the things that if you can’t pinpoint the error, they’ll just fob you off. You could try and read codes to see if it’s throwing a fault of some sort, but bar that, they’ll just tell you either that “it feels like all other Enyaqs” or that some software update changed the behaviour and they can’t do anything about it.

Which sucks, regen makes driving so much more relaxed.

One random check you could do i guess, compare B to the strongest regen setting in A, if there’s basically no difference, something is wrong and you can start the “gremlin hunt” from there with the garage.

Tried changing between D & B several times over the last 2-1/2 years and never found any difference in overall efficiency so just use D.

It’s not you, there simply isn’t one in terms of efficiency. You’re recuperating the same amount of energy, just slower/faster. That simply is a convenience thing and driver preference – some people like starting to brake at 2 miles before the traffic light, others throw an anchor when they’re almost in the boot of the guy in front.

In terms of regenerated energy, no difference. You convert kinetic energy from 40mph to 3mph (ish) – the only question is “how fast”, the available energy stays the same.

edit: that’s for current MEB/VAG vehicles, that does change in the next model generation where B brings the car to a full stop (actual one pedal driving), which technically could squeeze out marginally more energy for the last few mph, but likely irrelevant. One pedal driving isn’t for everyone either, i got motion sick in the Ioniq 6 from it (using medium-strong regen braking only now instead of “i-pedal” that brings the car to a stop) because when you come to a stop, there’s no “rocking”. Not sure how to explain what i mean, if you stop your car now, you know exactly when it’s stopped, with one pedal driving, depending on how soft it does it, you don’t. You need to visually confirm that you’re stopped, there’s no head-nod or anything, absolutely nothing.

@Rene it was front end minor bumper damage, someone hit me. Sounds like the newer model is going to have full on one pedal driving. I’ll try full on regen in A and compare it to B 👍.
