Can someone advise whether you ‘have to’ sign the dealers purchase contract when ordetering a new car ? The Motability account seems to suggest you don’t. However my dealer is insisting that I must sign it ?

Hi, Contact Motability first, exactly what are they trying to do, the dealer does not sell the car to you ever, the purchaser is Motability then the ownership becomes Motability, you are the user under Motability conditions, phone Motability before you have a serious problem, cheers Michael

No, the retailer should take all your details, but the purchase is done through motability

We ordered a Volvo recently and signed a vehicle order form – I’m guessing this is for the benefit of the internal processes of the dealer.  We signed one when we got our BMW three years ago too.  Didn’t really give it much thought!

I didn’t need to sign one with volvo, but thinking about it the chap did say we would normally sign one (non covid) as it was more about confirming the spec of what we want

Just so. Gary. I looked through the bumph the dealer gave us when I got in and it indeed confirms what we have ordered, the exact spec. and what’s included (like both charging cables) and details of the extras. Also we can pay for the extras by credit card!

I suspect what it is is some form of pro forms invoice for ordering purposes. Get them to explain what you’re signing if unsure. No business should expect someone to sign something they don’t understand.

I had to do similar when ordering my MG I guess it’s an internal process to cover asses & ensure stuff doesn’t go wrong nor customers change their mind & blame a dealer.
