My partner needed a part for her wheelchair, it’s a plastic guard about 9 x 5 inches, we’ve seen it for sale in the USA for $50. Got a quote from a UK supplier, £87! It’s a piece of plastic, there is no way this should cost anything like £87.

LOL, don’t start me off, (too late), I feel your pain, even the smallest bits cost a fortune. I paid £29 each for a Quokka cup holder and a little bag recently and they then charge an additional £17 for each of the adaptors you need to attach them to the chair.
Products – Quokka (quokkabag.com)
As for wheelchairs, you get all the bull about them being custom made, what a crock. If wheelchairs are custom made, then so are pushbikes as they also come in a range of sizes with a variety of accessories to tailor them for you.
I also bought a Triride to attach to my chair, half an electric bike for 4 times the cost.
Unfortunately, these companies know they have a captive audience, and we have very little choice.
And now councils and the like have started charging for parking in their car parks, it isn’t fair as everybody has to pay, they don’t have to pay out monthly for the extortionate things a disabled person does.
And they wonder why I Grrrumble!
November 25, 2022 at 6:39 pm #201363It’s not cheap being disabled. Batteries for the scooter, batteries and servicing for the stairlift. Had controls for the car which are now chargeable, car boot hoist, an extension strap to pull the boot down, that’s a cheeky £50. It’s never ending.
November 26, 2022 at 11:49 am #201388Unfortunate its not just the disabled being taken for a ride at the moment though I too have been caught with the take it or leave prices when they know damn well you got to have it.
Like I said everyone is being taken for a ride over prices and you only got to look at whole prices of fuel and the £2.64 profit yours and mine supermarkets are making on every gallon of diesel they sell though they don’t make so much on petrol as that’s about 10p less than the diesel prices.
Now if there ripping us off on the fuel at the pumps you can bet your bottom dollar there ripping us off in the supermarket itself.
Another example of the latest rip-offs is yesterday my dishwasher packed up so I went on line to see who had the one I need in stock and no one had them to take away so I thought never mind they can deliver one. Now I’m not in a big big hurry to get a new one so a week waiting for delivery is fine until I went back on line to order for delivery from Curry’s, AO and the likes and they all want £20 for the pleasure of selling me something, yes so Curry’s do internet prices but rob you on deliveries. Thankfully Argos still do free delivery so they got my business.
I could go on but will stop there but the excuse of the weak £ is wearing thin now as the £ has done well the past week or so and fuel cost would be another weak factor if it wasn’t for the supermarkets ripping us off.

DonnaI suspect that is exactly why you get PIP (or equivalent) It is to cover those extra charges 🙂
