Nice spot jamesg, agree with the shocking AP which tends to be the trend with the very small numbers of ev’s on the scheme.

          @brydo
is this one for your consideration, thinking the fuel saving will offset the AP, and more. If not things are slowly moving in the right direction.

              Good point Jamesg,

The last doc i saw stated auto AP ceiling limit of £3,750 which was introduced Q1 2018.

Though the doc was not for customers eyes, and thus makes me believe further adjustments have been made from Q1 2019 that we have not been privy to.

When the live chat for motability is online, i’ll ask them the question if the AP cap has been raised, and post back the response.

Ben: Welcome to our live chat service Trevor, how may I help you today?

Trev: May i ask what the AP caps on motability are?

Ben: Thank you for contacting us today, Trevor. I am more than happy to help answer your enquiry today.

We do endeavour to cap the Advance Payments (AP) for manual vehicles at £3,000, and for automatics at £3,750. However, you may find some more specialist vehicles (WAVs for example) which are more than this.

Ben: There is also a cap on the retail prices of vehicles, which I would be more than happy to explain if you would like further information on this.

Is there a particular reason why you ask? Is there a vehicle which you are interested in leasing through the scheme?

Trev: Thanks Ben, May i ask then are EV’s classed as specialist vehicles, as i see the Renault Zoe with an AP of up to £4,749?

Ben: Good question! Are you ok for me to find this vehicle on the website very quickly?

Trev: Of course Ben, no problem

Ben: Thank you for your patience.

I have just checked that, and you are correct about the AP on the Renault Zoe.

I would suggest, as one of the few all electric vehicles we have on the scheme (Zoe or Smart Fortwo), there is probably an allowance made for something like this. We do try to provide a wide range of options for customers, and I know we would love to have more electric vehicles on the scheme (eg. Nissan Leaf).

Ben: Are you looking for an electric vehicle yourself, Trevor?

Trev: I would be, but i’m unable to substantiate the extortionate AP of them when compared to retail pricing and other leasing firm offerings

Trev: It just seems motability provide a poor choice of EV’s at very high AP’s.

Ben: I completely understand, nearly £5,000 for a Renault Zoe is a lot of money. I do not think I could pretend otherwise!

It is a really good point you raise, and I know it is something we are keen to improve. Unfortunately, as the retail prices are generally higher for these vehicles, it tends to drive the AP up as well.

I must admit, I would not be able to compare this to some of the deals you could get privately, as I do not know enough about these, but I fully appreciate you would have a lot more choice.

Ben: I am not sure if Hybrids are of any interest at all, Trevor?

To be honest I terminated the chat as it was obvious the operator is there to try and get people on the scheme – the info he gave was wishy-washy in places, especially when stating retail prices are generally higher for ev’s. A zoe i think is £21k, whilst my cx-5 would be £29k with a £1k AP.

What I’ve taken from the chat is there are caps in place, but they can be moved at motability’s will, thus are not set in stone.

Also that a Live Chat operator is not geared to answer such technical questions as they are not privy to the reasons.

Guys to establish whether or not an ev is worth the AP stick your details into this calculator.

                        Home Charging Calculator

I lot will depend on your annual mileage, where you charge your car and if you charge at home have you taken up one of the special ev deals avialable on line.

With regard to the Zoe in particular there is a new model arriving this year.

                        https://www.drivingelectric.com/renault/zoe/903/new-renault-zoe-2019-specs-prices-and-sale-date.

I cant get my head around the high APs, even with the money saved i doubt the Zoe would be affordable for most.

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.
