It seems that we if we will be able to afford it have to pay VAT on AP which is pure evil from a labour Gov it just beggars belief what the hell is going on.It says with other measures it will become unaffordable for many vulnerable disabled people it is just sick.

I’m surprised that the inclusive metallic paint option hasn’t been ‘reviewed’. That’s another good selling point on the used car market, which of course, seems to be irrelevant to the Cancel-er.
On another point, isn’t the Salary Sacrifice scheme similar to Motabilty, as it deprives HMRC of revenue from income tax and N.I. contributions.? (or am I wrong.?) … and if so, why hasn’t that been targeted.? Discrimination maybe.?

I was under the impression that has been another U turn and has been put back to 2030, can you believe it
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

Yes, it’s madness. They’ve cut the salary sacrifice scheme right back on pensions (which will cause people to save less for retirement and be more reliant on the state in years to come) but left all the relief on cars. You couldn’t make this stuff up!
November 30, 2025 at 4:06 pm #318681The attacks on Motability from all sides of the political spectrum haven’t ceased with these changes. Kemi Badenoch has just said on TV that “people with tennis elbow get Motability cars” 🤬
Seems the politicians are playing a political game of who can get away with the most absurd claim. I can imagine them all sitting around, snortling and thinking lets see how thick and gullible the British public have become. Next they’ll be claiming people with stubbed toes and ingrowing toe nails are getting free cars at the tax payer’s expense.
And anyway, tennis elbow is a rather painful affliction, I have you know.

November 30, 2025 at 4:42 pm #318684Not a fan of Kemi, but she does need to start engaging her brain before she speaks, because alot of the stuff on benefits and Motability, her party did nothing about for 14 years pot kettle!
It seems Rach from accounts has misled everone on the budget in relation to the blackhole and a that the OBR had informed her that the defict had improved and in October, it had been eliminated, which has now caused the oppostion to request a FCA investigation.
The merry-go-round continues..

I hadn’t realised that the Motability Check website has now ceased. The low-life who created it has the audacity to say that “it has served its purpose” before re-directing to the official Motability site. I suspect that they are feeling very smug with themselves. It’s very sad that Labour, the Conservatives and Reform UK (the only 3 political parties with a realistic chance of forming the next government) have all fallen for the anti-Motability hogwash and are believing (and quoting as fact) all the utter garbage online. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story!

One or two car magazines have questioned the sense behind the changes as well.
I’m not surprised that Motability haven’t criticised the changes. They were passive beyond belief when the Richard Littlejohn article appeared some years ago and that was the start of the reduction in choice from (if my memory serves me) 5,500 vehicles to the 800 odd that we have today. When you think that EVs (and all the Chinese brands) didn’t exist back then, the drop is far greater than even the headline figures suggest.
I suspect that they were told that the treasury had seriously considered the removal of the block 20% VAT exemption (which would have rendered the scheme pointless) but, if they didn’t kick off, they’d get away with ‘just’ the removal of premium brands (even though it saves nobody anything) and the VAT on APs and insurance premium tax.
It’s also a stark reminder, if one was needed, that Motability Operations is a commercial business and their priority is generating enough revenue to pay for their gold plated salaries, bonuses and benefits. They don’t need to make a profit to do this, as all of these costs are incurred prior to any profit declaration. The needs of disabled people is purely incidental.

Did you say that when Johnson and his cronies and their mates were creaming billions off us all over Covid? I hate Starmer and his pretend Labour but nothing is more corrupt than the last lot!
