Interesting that we received an email tonight with a request to complete an online questionnaire on why we left Motability.

      I can’t imagine that it will make any difference to anything, but I responded with the following points;

      1) The removal of premium brands made no sense whatsoever, other than to pander to the press and ill informed public and politicians (to be fair, this was a directive from the Labour government who have always been experts in the politics of envy).

      2) Too much emphasis on EVs, which aren’t suitable for everyone.

      3) Appalling lack of choice of large SUVs (proper ones, not what Motability call ‘large’)

      4) APs that are out of control even for very modest cars which, when added to the sacrificed benefits, make the financial case for running a Motability car increasingly questionable.

      5) We resented subsidising the gold plated salaries and benefits for all levels of staff at Motability Operations which, given that this is all paid for by disabled people, is immoral.

      6) There is now a stigma to being a Motability customer

      Well, they did ask…..😂

Not a word about degraded service? Awful insurance company, no replacement vehicle nor taxi when the car has to go into the garage for a number of days under the warranty, the £120 payment the garages demand now to check your complaint under that warranty, so very many other issues…

Good old Motability gone with the wind…

I didn’t mention those things as I haven’t experienced them.

I have always found the service when I have phoned Motability to be excellent.

I’ve only ever made one claim and I insisted on a comparable hire car (we had a BMW X1 at the time and they gave us a Mercedes GLB).

When cars have gone in for service I have always pre arranged at least a courtesy car and often a demonstrator. We’ve never had to make a warranty claim.

Finally, hardly any of the recent changes (mileage limits, excess mileage charges, VAT on APs, removal of overseas cover) would have affected us, otherwise I would have added them to my list!

On this point you’re 100% correct: they always were polite and kind,  and supportive.  Verbally.  But practically it was my fight with Skoda UK for months. Not even with the local garage.

But I agree – one writes only what he / she personally experienced.

              Agree with the comments.

A big issue for myself is having paid a high AP on my Kia EV6 was expecting to be able to run the car with a 2 year extension (as with my last one). End of 3 year lease Jan 2027, no extension and I am Gone!

The costs now make it uneconomical to stay with Motability. Much better low deposit lease deals available on the selection of cars that interest me.

I never had a issue warranty work on both the Outlander and Suzuki, they collected and returned free of charge. We have had to pay for the Suzuki for service collection £30 but that’s it.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

On the point of hire cars etc, I admit not our current car, but one had to go in for a steering wheel replacement under warranty, and it took 7 weeks to get it, they kept the car and provided a hire car in that time.

Not sure if its different, but I’ve been in a hire car for a month now, and repairs havent even started on my Scenic, and they still have no ETA.

So, this feels 1 area im ok with tbh.

The high APs are a worry, especially coupled with the extra cost the reduction in miles will bring, though I think being a high mileage driver prices me out of private leasing unfortunately 🙁

I do think my biggest issue, is actually the removal of the premium brands, basically almost re-enforcing the ‘free car’ mentality that the Daily Mail etc have been pushing.  The Govt being part of this, but then in the same breath saying they dont have an impact on motability, and the rules they put in place feels like a piss take.

@shawry I was under the impression that high mileage drivers were the ones who would find switching to a private lease the most attractive, as other lease operators charge a fraction of the additional costs that Motability now charge?

In addition to excess mileage charges that are a fraction of what Motability now ask, you can get a lease with a higher mileage allowance to start with at even better rates? Plus, of course, you can have whatever you want, not just what Motability (or the politicians) ‘allow’.

Think I will need to do some proper spreadsheeting, as for things like EV5 30k miles its an extra £1700 upfront, and over £450 a month. (its over 4 years though, so more helpful)  and will need to get some insurance examples, and maintenance, as to include in lease, its generally over £100 a month more on 30k miles.

Interesting given, I left towards the end of April and haven’t been graced with such a questionaire, unless I missed the email.
