Prices are insane, £3200 base model golf automatic, way more for A3 and Leon etc.
For sensible golf size none electric it’s nearly impossible.
April 1, 2025 at 12:37 pm #300436It’s nice to see the Cupra Tavascan has come down in price and a V2 added, unfortunately the V2 still expensive but it’s a 54k car.
April 1, 2025 at 1:16 pm #300444Shame that the only Santa Fe model on the scheme remains the entry Premium model.
It’s also a shame that they have chucked another £grand on the AP. I saw one of these the other day (in the brown colour) and it was mightily impressive, the dumbell lights, sheer size and high ride height – it looked like something from a Holywood disaster movie, I half expected ‘The Rock’ to get out and tell me everything is going to be okay.
They certainly make them in some unusual colours! I really like the front of the new Santa Fe (looks like a previous generation Land Rover Discovery) but I have a problem with the back end. Like several recent Hyundai models (e.g. Kona) the very low down lights look all wrong and unfortunately extend around to the otherwise attractive side profile. Oddly, the Santa Fe feels smaller inside than the Tucson, as the high and wide centre console between the front seats makes the cabin feel a bit claustrophobic.

Sounds like the no cost option Terracotta orange bt, have to agree the rear design spoils the car.

April 1, 2025 at 5:28 pm #300461I have now looked through all of the Q2 list. On the one hand I am pleased that Motability haven’t succumbed to the court of public opinion and removed some of the higher end cars. However, I can honestly say that if we were due to order this quarter there isn’t a single car that would get me even remotely excited.
I’m not yet convinced that I’d want an EV given their range limitations and not wanting to have to charge away from home on longer journeys. We have a PHEV at present, but in all honesty I’m not convinced that I’d get another. Charging after every use is a faff that I’ve never had before and economy when the battery is depleted is poor. Ideally I’d revert to a petrol car, but the choice is dire and those that do appear are either too small, don’t remotely appeal or are lower spec models that I wouldn’t choose as a private buyer. Thankfully we don’t have to change for another 2 years (unless I bail out sooner) but I can’t see things changing for the better 😔
April 1, 2025 at 6:14 pm #300463We are 100% happy with our Suzuki Across we have noticed the AP has jump back up to £6999, unfortunately I was a full to pay such a high AP (-£750) but my heart ruled my head plus the AP dropped to £4,999. Strangely the better spec Toyota RAV4 PHEV has come on the scheme £4 less than the Suzuki Across ?
If I in the market the Toyota Prius PHEV looks promising, from a financial point we would be so much better off with a full EV, unfortunately we are not there yet, maybe ?
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
April 2, 2025 at 10:43 am #301800Seems the MG ZS has gone to, shame was due to test drive one on Friday, it was a backup choice.
MG ZS Hybrid+ is available from £499 As @Abercol suggests the electric version is being replaced with the MGS5 and yet to join the scheme
You are right, my mistake… My only concern over this model is the 3 speed automatic gearbox? Anyone got experience of this?
We had an MG ZS Trophy Hybrid+ for 10 days as a hire car when our Grandland was in for repair, it was a nice car, easy to drive and good on fuel. You don’t notice any engine noise when driving under normal conditions in fact it’s very quiet and smooth even when the engine kicks in. However if you go up an hill and put your foot down the engine revs quit high as if it’s not got enough gears, the best thing to do is test this when you have your test drive, we had the car in February and it only had 192 miles on the clock so I assume it was the latest version.
The things I did not like are the steering wheel has rake but no reach adjustment, the drivers display has limited display options with the digital speedo being in the top left had corner and can be difficult to see especially given the limited steering wheel adjustment. The radio can be muted but not turned off, you have to turn off the car open the door and then lock the car before it turns off. The sound system also sounded a bit ‘tinny’ to me so I tried to find the graphic equaliser to adjust the sound but there isn’t one so you are stuck with the sound as it is, there is also no balance/fader adjustment for the speakers.
Some of the exterior lights are halogen not LED, there is no arm rest or cup holders in the rear, all that said is still a nice car especially for the price, if you’re still having the test drive tomorrow you will be able to look at these things and decide if they are important to you.
Are you aware that MG are, supposedly, bringing out a Hybrid+ in the HS model, it should have been out in Q1 2025, but I’ve not heard anything yet.

Thanks for your honest opinion on this, it is appreciated. I think my heart has made a decision on the Hyundai Kona, it ticks all the boxes for me!
April 2, 2025 at 4:19 pm #302846ok the dust has settled and as usual mota managed to build up hopes by posting the juke hybrid in tekna and tekna+ trim only to remove them shortly after. most of my watched cars went up in price no suprise there, toyota yaris cross and the niro.
but one addition was the lexus lbx premium for £1889 based on the yaris cross but the interior is well worth the extra.
and a welcome return to the honda hrv for £1143 a lot of car for the money.
letss hope things improve over the next 12 months.

Your still a long way off mitch but, don’t go pushing the boundaries in the realms of unafordability. Remember a car is car to get you from a to b, not your living room lol.
April 3, 2025 at 6:54 am #302872@kezo, lol i know but i am a sucker for a comfy seat and i do like a light interior. i had the white/cream leather in the countryman i had last time and i think that spoilt me. there arent many light interiors available all the nissans are dark .
comfort getting in and out and the seat are my highest priorities and unfortnately the pickings are slim esp as i am restricted to petrol/hybrid. although if the ionic 6 comes down more in price i might eat the extra fueling cost subject to being able to get in it lol. those seats look very comfy i might just move in lol.
April 6, 2025 at 1:08 pm #304017Saw the Ford explorer when out and about looks good, think they only do it in full plug in electric though..
April 6, 2025 at 4:20 pm #304025I had a cheeky look (not due to change until Jan 2027!) when my nearest Ford garage had one, it’s nice but the Premium with the Driver Assist pack is almost twice the AP of an equivalent Elroq (with the Maxx package), £2300 more! Bear in mind that it’s the same car underneath (VW MEB platform) and that just seems crazy to me!.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

This is true and false – it is on the MEB platform, yes, but it’s not the same car. MEB is a platform, basically anything EV from VAG (plus “Capri” and Explorer) sit on that platform. That means, from Cupra Born/ID3 to Audi Q5 and ID Buzz. All MEB platform, all very different cars.
The platform is the same, but both ID3 and Audi Q5 sit on the same platform, seems odd to argue that the Q5 e-tron shouldn’t be more expensive. The platform just determines the motor, battery and wheelbase (and even that is adaptable). Everything on top of the chassis (including interior, infotainment, materials etc pp) is different.
Do i think that the Explorer is overpriced? Yes, i do. The reason we’re not even considering it is simply that if you’re looking at an EV, there’s no way around both Elroq and Enyaq. Most other ESUV on the scheme simply pale in comparison (in terms of value). The reality is sadly not that the Explorer is “too expensive”, it’s the other way around if you look at all other ESUV. I certainly pray it stays that way until we get to order ours, but objectively, the Skoda twins are simply very competitively priced.
Prior: SEAT Ateca Xcellence Lux 1.5 TSI DSG MY19, VW Golf GTE PHEV DSG MY23
Current: Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate
Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.April 7, 2025 at 10:26 am #304043The Explorer gets uniquely-tuned suspension and steering systems – with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear that was developed by VW, but in the Explorer, it features different spring and damper rates, unique bushings than VW offerings. Its wheelbase is identical to the id4 and the infotainment system is Ford. Oh before I forget, it also shares alot of the VW switchgear, including the rather daft front/rear window switch design 😂
Kind of like the Zeekr X, EX 30 and Smart #1 are the same cars but, different and sit on Zeekr’s SEA2 platform!
April 8, 2025 at 3:31 pm #304067ordered an Austral Iconic last month…. Now it’s going to be 600 notes cheaper.. Presume I can have a word with the dealer to get the car on the new price?
Asked Dealer for a re-order.. No problem and £600 better off.

We looked at the Skoda twins but despite trying two local-ish dealers we werern’t able to test drive any of them, and felt we were being given the brush off as Motability customers.
In the end we test drove both the Ford Capri & Explorer, and we’ve gone for the badly named Capri as it has the larger boot of the two (and is much better looking).
Yes, it’s expensive, but we had budgeted over the last 3 years for having to spend much more in the expectation of greater AP rises, so we are in the very fortunate position of being able to afford the premium that seems to come with these Ford models. (And, the Ford dealership in Loughborough have been incredibly helpful and accommodating).-
