Any advice as to how best go about this

I know I am able to order another car 3 months earlier than my current cars lease end date

In my case that falls on 31st may 2026

      A sunday

Which is one day before the next quarter

I think from memory that when ordering my last car they of course had to first contact motorbility to check things out and get a green light before accepting my order

Being a Sunday I suspect that the dealer may not be able to verify until Mon which will take me into the next quarter and possibly a higher or even lower AP ( cant see it being lower lol)

Any thoughts as to how best approach this?

I thought about talking to the dealer and seeing if they could clear things with motorbility prior to the Sunday

Any thoughts? As to a better approach

Another thing this to oneside is when my order is accepted

I am like others still unsure that by simply ordering before July 1st 2016 when the VAT will start being applied to Motability Scheme Advance Payments (upfront costs) and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) will be added to leases from July 1, 2026

that I will escape this increase as my official hand back date is after this date

Will my AP be locked in as first agreed? Tricky question

I suspect there is little info out there at the moment because Motorbility were dealt a curveball

I suspect the Insurance Premium Tax may well be added to my next lease as my lease end date will be a couple of months after this

      Any helpful thoghts/advice appreciated

i can order on the 28th feb lease end is 28 may. so i am hoping to get in before the ipt andd vat comes in.

but i am also considering dumping mota for at least a while and seeing if i can cope without a car and save a bit towards buying 2nd hand.

i am torn as at the moment unless i can find somone willing to employ a 66 year old i am only leaving the house 3 times a week to do physio. to keep the physio up though will cost more in taxis than the wpms so in a way getting another car is cheaper. decisions decisions lol.

Motability are very rigid about not letting anyone order earlier than 3 months before the lease end. The added problem you may have is that many dealerships don’t open on Sundays! If they do, the order process is automated and takes minutes, as all the system is checking is that you are eligible to order, so if you place the order on a Sunday it should be approved that day.

If you do order on the last day of the month, ensure that the dealer agrees that if the AP drops the next day they will cancel and re-order on the Motability system. It only takes a few minutes and doesn’t affect what they receive.

If you order before 1st July you will hopefully miss all the extra charges. Motability honour the prices based on the day you order, so you don’t need to worry that you will be hit with extra charges mid-lease. You won’t, but you’ll get the full hit with the lease afterwards.

I’ve just ordered a car and I managed to do 98% of the Motability paperwork/checks done before visiting the dealership. The only thing that needed to be done at the dealer was the car I wanted and the colour.

The OP is asking about the dealer placing the order on the Motability system though, which can’t be done in advance!

Was pertinent in a way though as the OP asked for any help/suggestions and the fact that he can get most of the background stuff done online in advance of the visit to the dealer will definitely help. I’ve just done all that, but was unaware until I started looking at my online account and it made the dealer visit a lot smoother.

This is what I know, to which @Glos-Guy has given the answer!

While some dealers will allow you to place an order prior to the 3 month opening window, this is on their system only and the dealer wil not & cannot put the order onto the Motability system, untill the ist day of the 3 month perios at the earliest.

If you order a car on a Sunday, the dealership will place the order onto the system and the order process will typically be signed off on Monday, however you are technically bound by the quarter you order in, so ordering on 31st May will put you in Q1 prices.

However, I’m not sure what your fully asking, as my mind doesn’t cope to well with riddles now I’m getting older😂

This is  a week ago from a senior customer service advisor. In my case my lease ends in August 2026, I can re-order in May 2026 I will avoid the 3rd quarter July changes.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

I was thinking the same – Jan, April, July, October (I think!)
