Please Help – Floor Mounted Pedal with Seats Low to Ground – No PIP

      Hi,

I have been looking for a car for a couple years now that suits my disability. The main thing is I have had a full knee, femur and hip replacement in my right leg and the knee has basically little to no flexibility and the leg/foot has little mobility. (My leg sticks out straight at all times)

I need a left foot accelerator modification. I’ve found with hanging pedals with the bayonet/flip adaptation, because I’m quite tall, hanging pedals just end up crushing my foot whilst pressed down as there’s no where else for my foot to go on the right side of the foot well.

I’ve found I think I really need floor mounted pedals and a seat low to ground (with the aid of seat cushions) so that my right foot can touch the floor or at least rest on the deactivated right foot accelerator, comfortably and isn’t stuck straight up, because other wise it can get numb and uncomfortable after a while.

I have had my PIP taken away from me a few years ago and I don’t get any government funding because I didn’t qualify despite all the above being true. I need a car for work as I’ve been travelling up and down the country via public transport, spending nearly £10,000 per year on transport and taxis, and I’ve been stuck in this position for a while and I’m just getting really disheartened by it.

Please, if anyone has a similar disability or condition to mine and has found a comfortable car that fits the above description, please let me know. I’m getting pretty desperate to buy my car myself and have it adapted. If anyone has further advice in regards to PIP and Mobility feel free to share.

Thanks so much and take care.

I can’t help with adaptions like these sorry 🙂

Also yesterday was the new quarter where newly released AP’s come out and members are too engaged in those talks and often miss posts like this unfortunately however, by me posting and it will appear at the top of the recent replies and may get someones attention. If not give it a day or two, till everyone has calmed over the new quarter and bump your post again.

I am right BK and the leg, or what left of it, happily dislocates the patella at any given opportunity, so my right foot must be bent to a certain angle, when I sit and the foot must be on the floor.

I had floor mounted pedal like in this link very many years ago and it was extremely inconvenient, as it forced me to bend my knee too much and then the silicon liner would eat into the skin, so I moved to flip-flop left foot accelerator.

My current vehicle is Skoda Enyaq, my dad drives Skoda Kodiaq and there is a same pedal installed for me and I find both vehicles very comfortable to drive. Note both have electric driver’s seat to adjust and store my sitting position.

Hope I have helped a bit.

            Hi,

Thank you for sending this. It is interesting to see this adaptation but, I’m afraid this looks like it would be inconvenient for me also as it would be an obstruction to where my right leg and foot would have to rest. My leg would be completely straight and the foot would have to rest pretty much right down near the bottom of the foot well.

I appreciate your insight. I will try to take a look at the Skoda Enyaq however as it’s good to note that the electric drivers seat is easy to adjust.

yes, hence I don’t use floor mounted pedal anymore as in my original message.  I use the Brig Aid like this

Just a thought, would an electronic accelerator by the steering wheel help?

Maybe look on Motability for your nearest adaptions installer and give them a ring to see what they advise, they should know being the experts what can and cannot be done to accomondate your needs.
