About 2 weeks ago I posted about my 24plate Enyaq breaking down and throwing the “electric drive not working correctly”

took 5 days to get through to the dealership who accepted it back in, was picked up from me last Monday, and this Monday I received a 9 seater tourneo mini van as my replacement (much to the wife’s displeasure) but grateful to still be on the road.

yesterday I got a call from my dealership who have diagnosed it as a battery fault, has to go to a battery car centre but can’t get booked in til October at the earliest.

now my cogs have been turning, as we are in Scotland we are still not bound by the new regulations yet, my window for ordering my next lease is at the end of December.

would Motability entertain an early mechanical termination at this stage, with long delays on repair, only allowed 3 months in a hire car and very close to ordering my next scheme vehicle, and if done before September still catching the old milage etc. is this something I should be asking? Thanks

granted this might come across as a bit dick turpinesque sneaky but if a lifeline was available to still catch the old milage allowance then who knows

Only Motability will be able to answer your question re mechanical termination.

If this is a ‘first time fault’ they may want it repaired under Skoda warranty as opposed to swallowing the overall cost of a mechanical termination for what maybe an isolated incident.

If it is part of a series of faults you may have to lead them to the fact that you have lost all confidence in the vehicle due to persistent mechanical faults.

Again, it will be solely down to Motability. However when you speak to them, it maybe wise not to mention your ulterior motive for the termination!

I’m also in Scotland and was under the impression that we have been put on the same terms as everyone else am I wrong.

In my previous termination due to a technical fault, I insisted it will not impact my £250 bonus, as the vehicle was faulty (Mazda CX-60) and I was able to prove it.

In your case you have nothing to prove – it is already confirmed by the manufacturer, so when you will be discussing the details down the line (NOT on the first call) insist too. Providing this £250 still exists.

As @BigDave wrote above,  talk to Motability, else your guess is correct as mine.

Yup, we received an email on 14th July and we are on the same terms and conditions as everyone else. You can put Dick Turpinesque back in his box ..lol .

But apply for an early termination as the vehicle is faulty. You would be applying for a new lease under the new rules.

                Re the changes affecting Scotland.

For customers receiving their allowance from Social Security Scotland, new Motability Scheme lease terms take effect for new orders placed on or after 1 September 2026. These changes—triggered by UK tax shifts—reduce standard mileage and tyre allowances and add fees for traveling abroad, though existing leases remain completely unchanged.

Certainly worth a try on mechanical grounds, given the long wait before the car can enter the battery repair shop, which will be some distance away, you would be looking at probably November before you get the car back at the earliest. This leaves you not only with a crap unsuitable replacement whilst your is being repared, but also you have lost faith in the Enyak and would no longer trust it.

The downside, would be a new car on the new terms.

Spoke to Motability today via live chat, apparently you now need to go through the rac repairs team to get a mechanical termination?

Did they? So they now outsourced everything and still pay the CEO £1M per annum?

Perhaps they should outsource him as well?
