After unsuccessful saga to purchase E-208 GT from an auction (again, thank you @kezo for your time and help) I popped in to a local dealer. With regards to the new E-208 GT once I have shown him that on autotrader I can get the brand new car for under £21,000 he agreed to match the price, but refused point blank to reduce the price on 71 and 22 in stock under £11,000. In fact he told me that both were sold just before I arrived. To his credit I need to admit that both vehicle were removed from their website.
Now my question is how that could be? People keep talking that EV cars don’t age gracefully, but here 4 years old car was sold for just over 50% off the new one.
P.S. The dealer also refused to offer any type of finance (PCP or PH) for the new one, claiming the price is already low. I wonder if this is the case or I can push him down on a cash deal?

Cheaper EVs won’t depreciate as much as more expensive ones, but what they are asking isn’t necessarily what they are getting for them! Due to the EV targets, which aren’t being achieved, dealers will be keen to push buyers towards new cars.
March 10, 2026 at 11:30 pm #343996And I am not surprised. Either way, we will go to see its sister over the weekend – Citroen e-C3 MAX. less power and smaller battery, but cheap on the lease – just over £200 for 10,000 miles pa and seems very comfortable to drive, as Citroen always were.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)March 11, 2026 at 12:06 am #343997I would take with a pinch of salt, he told you they sold just before you come in! Infact I wouldn’t trust a salesman/woman as far as I could throw them! They could have sat there unsold for along time and decided to auction them or move them to another of the groups dealerships.
Not offering PCP/PH is odd, as the dealer/sales make money on finance deals.
Isn’t their a facelift 208 coming this year, which will devalue older models? When looking at depreciation, its based on manufacturers price, which according to Autotrader was price around £30k new for the entry level in 2022?
I wouldn’t buy new (nearly new / ex demo) and why Stellantis e208?
March 11, 2026 at 7:41 am #344010Why e208
1. it is electric, so no charging costs (7p per kWh for a car which goes 4 miles / kWh on average => £175 per annum)
2. I want the car to have parking sensors and reverse camera.
3. I need the car by the end of march.
There are BYD and Dacia, but they are some 40 miles away from us at best. If we will need to spend time in the garage as I did with my two last cars on Motability… It’s simply not practical.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

Oh yes, but aren’t they all? I had my battles with Skoda dealership as well as Skoda UK. All on my own. Hence I took Motability to the ombudsman.
We are going to see e-C3 and Carwow has very good leasing deal at the moment.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)March 11, 2026 at 1:27 pm #344720Stellantis have had alot of flack around concerns regarding range, battery condition, glitches amongst other concerns including lengthy repair times.
I’d stil be inclined to look for used / nearly new / pre registered?
Renault 5
JakeWho E5
Hendy BYD Christchurch? (Doplin Surf / Dolphin / Atta do 2
March 11, 2026 at 5:30 pm #344731Nearly new / pre registered is one of the options, although I don’t think there will be any good PCP / PCH.
Renault 5 E-tech Techno (which I think is equivalent to 208Gt and C3MAX – have reverse camera and sensors) is £2,000 more than e-208 GT, which in turn is more expensive than C3 MAX.
BYD Dolphin Surf Comfort trim costs even more (!). With Dolphin and Atto 2 starting from £30,000.
Jaecoo 5 is huge – I don’t think we need such a big car for one person.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)March 11, 2026 at 5:49 pm #344737Just a thought, but why the need for such a new car and is an EV practical? For a relatively new driver, the pressure of a very new / expensive car is not something that they’d all want, especially when parking on streets in typical student accommodation areas. Also, I doubt that much uni accommodation has charging facilities, so reliance on public charging wipes out the running cost savings of an EV.
As the biggest cost of any car is depreciation, wouldn’t it be better to buy an older ICE car (say 4/5 years old) which would be perfectly reliable and total cost of ownership would be a lot less than running a new / nearly new EV – and no charging challenges?

All valid questions indeed. Home to Uni – 35 miles one way.
EV charging – at home for 7p /kWh with 4 miles /kWh => 10,000 miles pa (allowing for trips with friends) is £175 pa.I already have a quote for brand new e-C3 MAX for 3 years / 10,000 miles pa for £1,220 deposit with £203 monthly cost for 36 months.
Used ICE – the kid has one already (although I told not to buy, but who listens to the parents) and every other month it is in the garage, so eventually the TCO for three years for the new EV should be lower than used ICE.

Motability VW Touran Family Pack May 2019 (happy customer)March 11, 2026 at 6:25 pm #344744@kdwolf Understood. Put another way, when my daughter was at Uni, having a car would have been a liability. Very little student accommodation has parking, let alone charging facilities. Locations with high student populations tend to have good public transport facilities to facilitate their movement to / from campus and city centres etc. My daughter was several hundred miles away and I used to take her at the start of term and go and collect her at the end of term. You have the added benefit of it only being 35 miles away. If they already have a car at home I’d leave it there and save the money! Just my thoughts having been down this road in the past.

Or yes. One of mine is up north at Newcastle so occasional round trips of over 600 miles are only well familiar. The second one transferred this year from Cardiff to Exeter – the hostile environment at the former towards those who are not aligned with far left didn’t worth the mental effort. Plus it is now close to home.

March 11, 2026 at 6:37 pm #344748As an aside, Exeter is a fabulous place to live. It often ranks as one of the best places to live in the U.K. I lived there for 2 years in the early 80s and still have a soft spot for it. Great Uni as well.

Indeed. For starters there are no Palestine flags, nor zebra crossings painted in trans flags. None pushes their agendas into your face and everyone seems to respect everyone (so far at least).
