      Hello,

I’ve got my V750 for my new plate. I also have my plates made up and in my possession.

I hit the ‘Personalised Plates’ button on my motability account page.

I’ve gone through the DVLA process and it’s completed successfully.

      What happens next?
Does Motability automatically inform the insurance company about the change in reg plate?
It did say on the Motability page you have about 3 days to change the plates on the car.

I’m just a little confused, and expecting to get pulled over with ANPR cameras on a police car, with the original reg plate on.

I have ASD and thus have difficulty with social and understanding information, written and verbal. I process information in logical blocks, before I reply. Sometimes I'm right and sometimes I'm wrong.
I also have a corneal visual condition, which makes me visually impaired without daytime, or daytime bulbs, among other disabilities/conditions.

The process that you have been through will automatically amend Motability’s records and the insurers. I phoned both just to be sure, but they said don’t worry it happens automatically. After 5 days the online account still showed the private plate (which I had removed, but the process is the same) so I called Motability and the lady I spoke to sent a chaser to the relevant department and it changed later that day.

I was also concerned about being stopped by the Police, but apparently their systems communicate with the DVLA and will know that a change is in progress. Besides, normal police cars tend not to have ANPR, it’s just the cars they use for motorways / armed response etc, so your chances of it ‘pinging’ are very remote and even then they would only stop you if they had nothing to do, which is almost never these days!

So I should just be free to stick on the new plates now, and the updates will all complete themselves in the background?

As long as you have received a notification from DVLA confirming that you can now assign the private plate to the car then yes. That means the legal bit is done. The rest is admin.

Yes, I got a DVLA email with the big green square with the new plate number and ‘can now be put on the vehicle’.
