Ordering / Collection

So, my wife is the person with the award, but is mostly bed bound now, and when she does go out it sets her back weeks, and stops her doing stuff that mostly keeps her sane being in the situation she is.

It seems that now covid isnt a thing, all dealers want the person with the award to visit the dealer twice, and the only way around this is to become an appointee, and this seems a bit of a drastic step, as Id rather not have the benefit paid to me.

First couple of cars Ive been able to carry out the order and collection after the wife spoke to the dealer on the phone, which now seems I shouldnt have been allowed to do.  Quite frustrating, and depressing that she has to suffer more when there is no need 🙁

EDIT: Just a whinge, needed to get it off my chest, sorry, feel free to delete 🙂

Can’t you arange with Motabbility to become an Apointee for your wife, that way you can do all the ordering and collecting!

No, well yes, but only by becoming the wife’s appointee through DWP which means I essentially become the claimant for any benefits she gets, and it gets paid to me, and I become motabilities customer.

thats extreme and I’d rather not have to do that just for the sake of her needing to order a car face to face when they’ve already proved it’s possible to do remotely

          oh well never mind 🙂

Obviously this isn’t going to be the case for every dealer as other will be more strict but when we ordered my mums car recently she had been to a dealer sat inside liked it but we were still looking, when it was time to order her chemo was too much and she couldn’t go to a dealer, I explained this to a dealer and we did a video call with mum, of course I’m sure this is all not part of motability rules but as you say the only other way is to become an appointee and that’s a headache. The dealer was super nice and my mum didn’t have to be there for the order or collection but please take this advice with a pinch of salt as like I said every dealer will be different. I’m only saying it as it seems like your wife health isn’t the best and I know it can be difficult

No, I absolutely appreciate it, it’s finding those dealers that adhere to the spirit of the rules rather than enforcing I think.

ill ring a few dealers and see if they’d accept a video call I think 🙂
