I hope all is ok.
Unfortunately when things happen that suddenly it’s rarely good news. I hope I’m wrong.
Three years ago today I went under the knife having gone to the minor injury unit with strange swellings in hand and foot, a quick unltrasound on my hand showed a cyst, resulting in an urgent transfer to the main hospital where orthopaedics were expecting me. Cysts were removed with little issue, although having surgery on a foot when you’ve ridiculously ticklish feet does make for interesting dressing changes.

January 28, 2026 at 3:51 pm #336831yes unfortunateley i am not expecting good news.
peripheral vascular disease is suspected. partly hereditary as thats what killed my dad and it wasnt nice, basically his arteries clogged up from his toes bit by bit up his legs until they cut off blood supply to major organs, the last 3 months of his life he was bedbound in agony ending up with an open morphene drip. debateable as to wether the morphene or the disease got him.
due a phone appointment on friday to discuss blood results from last week high cholesterol etc so i expect they will add to the statins to try and bring it down but if the doplar shows clogging then some surgery may be needed. none of which looks fun. if it progresses i could end up having bits lopped off.
January 28, 2026 at 3:53 pm #336832Mate, none of that sounds great. I hope it’s not the worst case.

January 28, 2026 at 5:03 pm #336837Sorry to hear that Mitch
lets hope its caught early and lifestyke changes such as more exercise will be enough to keep it at bay.
January 29, 2026 at 8:01 pm #337127well had the ultrasound dopla this afternoon and its well weird, ultrsound readings at the ankle and behind the knee whilst having blood pressure taken at the ankle then later as normal on the arm.
the pressure must hit the sciatic nerve as you get pain down the leg and along the foot and at the tip of your big toe.also in your buttocks right on the tip of the fleshy part. very strange.
judging by his face i dont think it will be good news and about 3-4 days for results so i dont think we will have anything for tommorrows phone appointment.
heyho
January 29, 2026 at 8:37 pm #337130wow been on the gp online system and the dopla report is on there, seemingly nothing too untoward its only diffused sounds nothing to indicate serious vascular damage just some minor stuff in the background. so the rest was just sciatica playing up under pressure.
so hopefully just some action needed on cholesterol, which isnt too onerous.
good news for a change.
January 29, 2026 at 8:39 pm #337131That’s great news. Hopefully, as you say, a few adjustments and you’ll be good for years to come.

January 31, 2026 at 1:00 pm #337252ok the dopla was good news unexpectedley,, but then the gp phone appointment never materialised on friday so i am going to have to battle the monday 8am chaos to find out whats going on.
typical.
January 31, 2026 at 5:14 pm #337258Yay on the good news. Monday morning 8am chaos seems worth avoiding but sometimes you’ve got to suffer that little bit.

February 2, 2026 at 11:24 am #337311ok the gp aknowledges they stuffed up basically the person i spoke to didnt book the doctor to phone.
so we start again wait and we will call but it might not be today.
wow.
February 2, 2026 at 5:57 pm #337332ok had the phone call from the gp as expected not good cholesterol bad is v high 10 x normal cholesterol good is low. blood sugar not good. but good news blood pressure is down almost normal and weight is down 10kg since last jan.
i dont get it before xmas i did the 12 week diet and exercise course prescribed by the doctors and diets fine exercise is dodgy as with my back and knees etc it aint easy.
she is referring me to lipid clinic there are some other meds but they have side effects apparently.
today i went on myfitnesspal and input everything that has passed my lips today and its pretty much the same every day and the total calories are 1615.00. considering they allow a man 2500 i am well under targets for losing weight yet i am not.
well it looks like this tracker is easy to use so i am going to use it from now on and get a long term picture and go back to the medics with it because this doesnt make sense.
February 2, 2026 at 6:21 pm #337333I’m glad (kinda) that it’s just a cholesterol issue.
In terms of weight management, it’s still the balance between calories consumed versus those burnt. Like you the burning is a massive issue for me, when back and knees combine I’ve got problems keeping up with my 83 year old mum.
Whilst your intake is below the average, the 2,500 is for a fit man who does stuff, much more stuff than we can manage. The key is to understand what you’re burning daily then see what that means in terms of your intake. Hopefully your tracker will help. Most phones have movement trackers which will give you an idea of what you’ve burnt each day.
I hope you can get on top of this and return to ‘normal’.

February 2, 2026 at 6:35 pm #337334thats the issue if i can get to the gym every day the exercises etc i can do add up to 353 calories burnt which means i should be losing weight far more than i am even allowing for the strength exercices adding muscle which is heavier than fat.
the myfitness pal i use on the laptop i hardly use any apps on the phone banking only to be fair and only because the bank insist on the app for logging in on the laptop.
i suppose i will have to suck it up if i get an electric car as i will need them to refuel etc. steps are none existant anyway at home 7 to the bathroom 8 to the kitchen 12 to bed 6 to front door.
depressing or what lol.
