I hope all my old friends are happy and well.

It’s been a good while since I last posted on here and it’s a shame it’s not a very positive one

Some will remember me and I’ll be fresh out the wrapper to some.

So I spoke to MB today via the web chat. I  can reorder from 19th Feb

however I wanted to extend for 2 years with the plan of probably ordering before the end of that 2 year extension like I’ve done for the last few cars for

Person I dealt with was very nice , polite and easy to talk to

i explained my reasons for wanting to extend the lease in depth , we spoke for over an hour

However despite speaking to his manager the extension was refused leaving me quite literally up that well known creek without a paddle , more like without a boat

Some might remember I had the Mini John Cooper Works that a bunch of us ordered 3 years ago

Mines is well under the mileage threshold so that wasn’t an option however he said because my car was not modified in any way for me that the answer to extension was a No, but to contact them again on the 19th as that’s my reorder date

Now I’ve read some posts already about leases being offered and some refused

I feel pretty let down by MB in all honesty. I’ve always sang their praises with no complaints but this just doesn’t sit well. I know the enforced changes by the current Gov have really thrown a spanner in the works.

i explained change is not easy for me, enforced change even harder

I asked for a 2 yr extension and it was rejected so after 30 mins I asked could we meet in the middle and I’d accept 12 months. Again this was refused at this stage.

As this wasn’t planned I’m not in anyway financially prepared  for the AP of a new car  which was also explained to MB

i know there is suitable cars on the scheme for £0 ap

But I’m one of those see a car for more than just transport from A-B

As pathetic as it sounds my car is currently the only thing bringing me a little joy

i thought I was being fair with meeting half way with the 12 months

So the standard 2 year extension which was relatively easy to obtain has now gone

They have applied a stricter criteria now and look unlikely to budge on my case

just what I need in my life right now

I’m not looking for advice really , I’m just sharing my experience and wondered if any other members have had similar experiences.

@Winston Hello,  it’s good to see you posting again, albeit not a bright post, due to motabilities policy change regarding lease extentions.

Sadly there are more changes on the way! Thanks to this government and the press demonising motability users.

I really do not know what to suggest to you at this point in time. But if where you, I would fight on.

Maybe @GlosGuy might have something to say on this. As he is so well informed on such things.

Hi Winston, thanks to a weak government and Motability unwilling to stand up for us, the future is looking a lot less fun for those with any appetite for decent cars.

From various posts both here and on Social Media, the best way to get an extension is to go to the grants team and tell them your car is still suitable for your needs.  They’re the only team capable of authorising a 2 year extension with ease.

As someone who still gets some joy from cars, the choices that are available that equate to either fun or decent depending on your preferences are extremely limited.  Even Motability have stated they’re focusing on their core mission, which is providing reliable, practical cars for disabled people to achieve independence.  That was immediately followed by the removal of coupes, 2 door cars and convertibles.  There’s a lot of people assessing their options away from the scheme especially with Salary Sacrifice schemes getting just as much help but without the BS.

Id definitely call the Grants Team, they’ll be the best bet at achieving that extension.

No mate, I posted it and then the wordpress critical error appeared, so click back expecting to see “awaiting moderation”, but couldn’t and still can’t see that.

I have seen posts from other members of the forum, who have gone to the grants dept and got their lease, extended 2 years, as the vehicle was still suitable, rather than having a new car. I’ll have to see if I can find the thread it was in and maybe you can chat to them.

Ive had the same, I replied and got the WordPress error and returned to waiting moderation.  I don’t know if there’s something in an update or something that’s set this off on occasion?

Thanks for the replies folks and it’s nice to see some of the old names I remember , brings back memories of happier times

I didn’t know the grants team had anything to do with that, I thought they were for New Cars only, so this is great thanks. That’s the road I’ll go down next month

 

just out of curiosity

the New Mini F66 JCW is on the scheme , new version of my current car

mini have renamed their trim levels, Used to be Premium & Premium Plus , but now it’s called Class 1,2 and 3

all the other minis on the MB website have the Class listed but the JCW doesn’t, I asked MB they couldn’t tell me 🤣. Has anyone looked into this car and know the answer?

A few on here have got lease extensions after requesting a grant, they’d rather extend the lease than give you a grant to pay your new AP, they’d rather extend the lease for you. This is what @Kezo was referring to.
