Nissan X – Trail maybe?

      Howdy all,

Very much doubt if anyone remembers my couple of previous posts, but the saga continues. My fiancée is a recent motability sign up for her disabled daughter with myself as nominated driver. The family consists of 5 of us, 3 average height adults, a toddler with a car seat, and a 6ft 7 teenager.

Finding a car to accommodate us all was a mission from my previous postings, but we believed we had struck gold with the new Nissan Frontera. Went along to check it out (not available for test drive) and all fit comfortably, so we placed our first ever order with a dealer back in April and we’re quoted late August for delivery. Since then the delivery has slipped, mid- September, then October, then November, now it seems December if we’re lucky. MOT on my current vehicle expires beginning of Sept and it most definitely will not pass with expensive repairs almost a certainty.

It is looking increasingly likely that we will have to cancel our order to get a car in good time however alternative options are few and far between, not to mention expensive.

I have found the Nissan X Trail with AP of 1999 which we could just about scrape together. Head room and back seat width seems like they would easily accommodate, although I do have some concerns about the middle seat in the back. It folds down into an arm rest/cup holder for the outer seats however on family trips my fiancée would need to sit here to be near our daughter in the car seat and it doesn’t look particularly comfortable.

Does anyone have any experience of the X Trail? And of the middle seat in the backs comfort level in particular?

Thank you for reading, sorry it’s long

My dad has X Trail (out of Motability scheme) and from what you have described, it will be challenging for you, especially on long trips. Although the car is very nice, it isn’t comfortable enough to accommodate 7 people on mid to long range trips. Have you tried to rent it for a day or so via Enterprise rent-a-car or the likes of?

On Motability I had for almost five years VW Touran SE Family package. Yes it is ugly to say at least, but was very comfortable for all 7.

The pain that I saw they about to increase the price, but if you are lucky than hopefully you will find some cancellation by Monday.

        Sent from a mobile device.

Wouldn’t need the 7 seat version, just the 5. Only 5 of us in total including driver

I’m afraid that I haven’t driven one, or even sat in one, but the landlord of a pub we use has one and we were admiring it the other day. For a big car, it’s a good looker! From memory, you can’t get the higher spec ones through Motability (which we would want) but if that doesn’t worry you and you can all fit in it, I’d say it’s a decent choice.

A friend took me out in his recently and it was very comfortable in the front and the car seemed to have loads of space. His negative comments are that his base version has no sat nav and that it is a very thirsty car. The boot was huge, he has a hoist and small powerchair in it.

Well worth a look if nothing else.

Hi MotoMoto, I forget, but can you charge at home?

With regards to the XT, we found it rather narrow in comparison to similar sized cars, such as the 5008, Kodiaq.

Omoda 5 might be worth a look. It’s not great on fuel but, only £500 AP, which would balance out over 3yrs compared to paying £2k AP!

Unfortunately, the new quarter prices are out tomorrow, so maybe wait, you never know what might happen. I would also cancel the Frontera sooner rather than later, if your wanting to jump ship. That way you can jump on a new deal, as soon as!

Unable/unhappy to charge at home. Looking to be moved to bigger place at some point so home charger installation would be pointless and can’t guarantee parking outside the house to run a cable etc. Electric just doesn’t work for us ATM unfortunately. Appreciate your response though and will discuss the Frontera cancellation with my fiancée
