DafElonMusk has stated his intention to get EVs to the masses, so this could be the start. I can’t see any reason why Tesla shouldn’t be on the scheme except for cost.
Going back several months I despaired at the lack of EVs on the scheme but to be fair that situation has improved substantially and not even the reduction in the grant has affected the choice detrimentally.
The greater the competition the greater the choice. Bring it on.

72 dudesThe range of this model is……… 10 miles 🙂
Would be good to see a cheaper Tesla on the scheme but Tesla have already said that their business model will not include doing business with Motability.
Personally I cannot see how they can produce a model which costs £25000 less than the next model up.

HarryYeah it looks Focus sized. No way they bringing that out at 18k.
Even if they done a Fiesta size Tesla i doubt theyd price it at 18k.

DafTesla have a new battery the 4680 which is said to be half the cost of the current Tesla 3 battery. They have also developed a way of integrating the battery into the chassis to reduce weight and provide the car with greater agility.
They talk of 500 mile range and recharging time of 35 minutes. However both Toyota and Neo are hoping to have solid state batteries ready by 2023 that will have a range of 1000 km or about 700 miles and recharge times of 18 minutes.
I don’t think the new Tesla will come in at £18000, rather between £20000 and £25000. Even so the improvements are significant and Musk is a canny businessman, if he can see a profit in Motability he will go for it. We live in interesting times.

BradCould you imagine the breakdown the daily mail would have if Motability offered Tesla’s

ajn@Brad I think it’s that sort of attitude that creates the problem, the scheme is great for us, however people are struggling out there..
Some may live a life time driving bangers to and from work.
last thing they need is that attitude..March 31, 2021 at 7:45 pm #144080
DafBrad I don’t think “the fail” would be too worried. They haven’t had a hissy fit about the small Beamers, Mercs etc we are able to go for. It’s only when we get above ourselves, as they see it and go for the bigger more expensive models that they make a fuss.
I think they would be relaxed about the plebs getting a cheap Tesla, whilst they could carry on with the more expensive models.
By the way there is a rumour about a tie up between Toyota and Tesla to produce a cheap SUV. With Tesla tech and Toyota build quality it might be a good fit.
