I normally recommend staying on the same operating system, as compatability betwen them are seamless i.e its easier to mirror transfer files between two Android devices or 2 IOS devices than it is from Android to IOS r vice versa.
Android has more competition between manufacturers, so that keeps prices lower compared to IOS devices where Apple is a closed ecosystem and Apple’s closed competition model has been a subject of debate regarding its impact on market dynamics and consumer choice for along time. Of course there is cross platform competition as well.
Android devices have between 2 and 7 years software and security patches depending on the brand you you go with i.e Samsung has 7 years. Apple have 5-7 years of security patches on its tablets.
Samsung Tab11+ offers a good for price point anti reflective screens vs iPad A16 which have more pixels per inch – no winner
Ipad 11th gen A16 has a faster processor 6gb RAM 128gb vs Samsung Tab11+ slower processor 6gb RAM 128GB, but compensates being over £100 cheaper – Raw processing power isn’t important for what you are doing and neith are no slouch.
Samsung Tab11+ has an 11 hour use 8400mAh battery 25w charging speed vs iPad 11th gen A16 10 hour use 7698mAh battery 20w charging speed – In reality neither here or there.
Given your phone is Android, I would get an Android tablet and not necessarilly Samsung, as was the advice when you were last looking at phones (if I remember you had your nieces iphone). Thats not to say theres nothing wrong with Samsung, but you are paying an element for the badge name and there plenty of Android tablets on the market as good or better for similar money.

Kezo how many years updates do you get with that ?
February 21, 2026 at 6:18 pm #338442I’d probably stick with Android for seamless syncing with your phone. Samsung are best for updates at 7 years.
You can get the Samsung Tab A11 for £119 at Argos (using code RED20) although it’s only 8.7″. The 11″ jumps up to £199!
If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

I persuaded a friend to move from a dying old IPad to one and she’s more than delighted with it 🙂
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
February 23, 2026 at 12:44 am #338484Probably factor in taking old and new items to your local IT dude and let them transfer your data, pix etc.
But as others have advised, your systems will match and make future upgrades so much easier.
It is quite onerous upgrading, but worth it.

Bought the kit this morning from Honor thanks to your link 🙂 Had been looking at Xiomi pad 7, but the difference isn’t great given the price difference and getting a branded keyboard for seamless working was a bonus.
I have had several Honor phones since having the 7 when it launched in 2014/15 with no issues.
