So I applied online for a new blue badge. And to be very clear, I am a full-time manual wheelchair user with no legs. The old blue badge expired in September 2025.
Received the new and I noticed that it expires next year, ie 2026. WTF?!
I begrudge having to apply every three years, but now it is annually? They are messing with me, right?!

Is your current award up for renewal in the next year? If not there’s no explanation, other than the stupidity of some council worker.

It’s a strange set up with the blue badge now. You have to fill in a national form, but the badge is sent out locally. I will email someone, but I expect to apply again next year. The scheme is bonkers enough for that.

£20 once a year for 3yrs, fills the pot far more and if the council did it to every BB user, it would be a fair old lump!
Even gov.scot say usally every 3 years.

Lucky for me, the badge is free, at the moment. But I agree with your sentiments @kezo.

It is as @kezo suggested, when my ‘lifetime’ benefit runs out! Should I be worried?!
It is things like this that boil my p!ss. Computer says NO.
They waste so much time on dealing with people who have a full-time permanent disability. There must a whole cohort of us whose disability will never change, except get worse, over time.
Had my GP signed off the blue badge, nae bother. But because someone, it has to be a committee, has decided to renew badge every three years AND not to award a real lifetime benefit, there is more admin to deal with.
I hate these first world problems, but I am used to jumping through hoops.

Seriously, you got to watch what you say on social media, they have AI checking everything.
Just watched an accountancy channel, anf HMRC has AI checking, bank accounts, etsy, ebay against socal media and if your tax returns dont match what you say on facebook and X, it gets flagged for investigation.
But please no more jumping and no more hoops.
