      I have a car now on extended lease…I feel the need to go out alone if possible so the powerchair and hoist I have now would not work…I need automatic vehicle with driver transfer and I am finding that dealers have mainly only ride in the back in chair options…I have even considered a braun topper box if I could get an affordable wheel powered chair that would not be too heavy to hoist up to topper…I really cannot afford a new wav…this will almost certainly be my last vehicle as condition is progressive so would love more freedom while I can…I have not applied for a grant as I am 71 yrs old and feel that that would go against me..anyone else have any thought please?

      Which Mobility Car

        @Pollytunnel,

        Age is not a barrier to life or even applying for a grant, particularly not for a WAV as they are seen a priority. Please apply. https://www.motability.org.uk/grants/

        We were/are in the same position, the Advance payments are incredibly high for Wav’s so we were forced into nearly new due to pricing. Luckily we were able to extend the lease for a further two years. But we are approaching the point where we will have to ‘go again’ and are really in a quandary. To get the new version of the Wav we have now the AP is 20k+ and the chance of getting the same nearly new is almost impossible as we need side entry and they are as rare as hens teeth. It looks like we may be forced into buying the vehicle we have now from Motability and face the financial dangers of running a six year old van.
