So tomorrow is the bid day it can’t wait any longer. 4 am start 7am procedure starts

Going into Stanmore initially for a month, to include a lot of intense recovery.

To say I’m overflowing with nerves is understatement,

spine broken in four places and rods bolted in and then disc replacement on my cervical spine.

If all goes well this time tomorrow I’ll be able to see and move……

Phil, the way this works when you go in for major surgery is that you respond every day otherwise people might think ……………………….. youv`e gone home.

Quick update from the man of steel.

My physio started slowly.  I walked with my frame 10 ft to the loo. 🤢

but I’ve mosty had bed rest, pain. Morphine more morphine then more morphine.

Then ct scans and a trip to central London to a sitting MRI.

Eye sight is blurry today. But they tell me it’s as I may have tried to do too much.

God I’m unfit. Found that out real quickly. 😂

Bri I’m still here not brown bread just yet. I’ll try and get on each day. But they keep locking my phone away then can’t fund my locker key  🙄

    Thanks for the thoughts guys.

    That’s me josh.

The trumping has subsided I’m told it was the fault of a muscle relaxant? I thought it was just hospital food.

Recovery going really well and is healing of scars.

My wife says i look a bit like Frankenstein with all the stitches and scars. that’s bloody nice! 😂

    Hi Philjb,

I’m glad to hear the recovery is going well.  I don’t want to cause any unnecessary anxiety or worry, but I just read a story in the mirror (link below) classic red top sensationalism but the point I took out is that it says PIP payments stop if you are in hospital for 28 days.  Not sure if this will affect you, and how it effects mobility cars but when reading the story I remembered you mentioned you are in for an initial month.  Maybe you can get discharged for a day after 27 days and get readmitted to get around the issue (if there is one) Just thought I would mention, and hopefully some members of forum can confirm about the vehicle position as i think best to be in a position to plan than for something to come out of the blue.  Hope recovery continues to go well.

Sorry for a bit of a negative post and hope this is not an issue.

    thanks

What happens to my lease if I’m in hospital for more than 28 days?
    Print this pagePrint this page
In general, DWP do not make payments of DLA care and mobility components after a disabled person has been in hospital for 28 days or more (84 days for children under 16); payments resume once the disabled person comes out of hospital. In the past, this suspension of payments was not applied to Motability Scheme customers, whose mobility component continued to be paid to the Scheme until the end of their lease agreement. However, from April 2013 onwards, the DWP has started to treat all hospital in-patients in the same way, whether they have a Motability vehicle or not. This means that, for disabled people with lease agreements that go into hospital after 8 April 2013, DWP will stop paying the DLA mobility component to the Motability Scheme if they are in hospital for more than 28 days.

As soon as you are admitted to hospital, you must notify DWP of your change in circumstance. If you are in hospital for more than 28 days, you or somebody acting on your behalf should contact us to discuss your individual circumstances. Depending on the expected length of your hospital stay and, of course, your own preferences, we will discuss appropriate arrangements with you.

Josh I know that thanks, this has been in the planning for many years.

I’ve told them I’m going in, my surgeon spoke to someone and got a form. But as I’m allowed weekend then, home stays after a few weeks,  then go in as day patient for physio treatment..

but yes you must let them know if your stay is over 28 days or your unsure and they will write to your specialist, I’m still getting my pip payments as normal. 👍🏻

Thanks Teza, this is my 5 th spinal surgery at Stanmore.

They are amazing here. So helpful and caring.

They never leave you waiting if you need something and all scans etc are either private or done in house if possible, but there’s never a long wait.

If carlsburg did spinal surgery hospitals. lol

Josh if the op would have gone very wrong or not healed.

Id have to notify them again they may not stop my payments  or entitlement but as I said my circumstances are my wife can’t drive.

Is entitled to a car on the scheme, but would have no way of visiting if they took the car away as she has mobility and severe anxiety too, so my children are down to drive.

If they got awkward my wife could order a car on the scheme to use to visit.

As always let them know as they will find out anyway with future medical evidence then you could be taken to court I guess to recover costs.

The stupid thing is, if / when I come in for physio etc as a day patient. I need ambulance transport there and back as my kids work till late on weekdays.

So it’s probably costing the gov more to G4s to transport me and my wife. 🙄

    Adi

thanks but as said I’d already had everything in place.

My last pip assessment I told them about the planned surgery too. The main reasons for which I got high rate entitlement for the max time.
