BBC now reporting on it & N01 viewed news article this morning. Hopefully this will get big traction now and possibly stop this in its tracks for all existing drivers.

@Glos-Guy Nice colour! Not tempted to debadge the M60i?
Nah, that’s what people who have the entry level models do 😂
I have seen a number of US M60i owners who have changed the rear silver ‘X5’ and ‘M60i’ badges for black ones. That looks good, and if I could trust myself I could be tempted to do that, but I’m the worlds least confident DIY’er 😂
April 2, 2026 at 4:22 pm #350760@Kezo Definitely don’t want to debadge an M badge on a BMW, even tho it is an ‘M-Lite’ if I had an M50 badge at the back on the i4 best believe I’m keeping it on, the people got to know it’s serious business lol.

April 2, 2026 at 4:25 pm #350762Seeing a BMW on this forum again makes me miss BMW on the scheme, what a time it was to be alive. Can’t even push the accelerator anymore without being threatened to get removed.

I was only saying to the dealer this morning that had BMW remained on the scheme, and the X1 23i had been available, we would have stayed with Motability. Having had two iX1s on extended test drives I wasn’t interested in an EV and we don’t want another PHEV, so even what was available before the ‘luxury brands’ plug got pulled wouldn’t have tempted us. But yes, I can’t wait to get back to a BMW, especially one without a black box to worry about 😉

My thought surrounded the Mr handy’s and the likes out there.

You could add a dtivker to the back window “wish I had a real M”

😂 You sound like some of the folk on the BMW forums @kezo
I went through a stage many years ago of wanting a full fat M Car (an M5), but genuinely wouldn’t want one now. The ride is far too firm for me and you have to have figure hugging M seats, which are no good if you are of generous proportions 😂 I know a guy who bought a new M3 Touring last year and after less than a year chopped it in for the ‘M Lite’ M340i touring, which he much prefers. On his M3 he got through the brakes in 8,000 miles (and was told “well, it’s an M car, what do you expect?”) and the protruding rear wheel arches kept getting stone chips from the front tyres. He had them ppf’d but it didn’t help.
The X5 M60i is indeed one of the (unofficially titled) ‘M Lite’ cars, but differs from the previous X5 M50i in that it now has a BMW M Division ‘S’ series V8 engine, whereas the M50i had a ‘standard’ BMW ‘N’ series V8. Other than a few minor styling tweaks, that’s where the M division links end though. It has none of the track focussed bits and bobs that enthusiasts love (and the X5 M Competition has), but I wouldn’t want them. The M60i is 90 bhp down on the X5 M Competition (it has the same torque, oddly) but 530 bhp will suffice for me! I’m so Lilly livered I’m even adding air suspension for the most comfortable ride, something that true M enthusiasts would get a nervous twitch over 🤣

I’m still very much the into racing, as I used to be, my eledest kids still do and to this day, I’m not immune to getting behind the wheel and having go. Once monthly you’ll still find me on my Yamaha YZF450 racing across dirt, a shadow of my former n,Staffs MCC days, but its great fun and keeps me active and gives me free time, even though I ache next day😂 I started age 9 following in the footsteps of my dad and grandad.
I worked hard and enjoyed life to the full, feeling the pain for it now, as I fast approach 60 and like sleeper cars. but promise, I don’t grace those forums😂
April 2, 2026 at 10:07 pm #350804April 7, 2026 at 8:40 am #351158All I know is there is a line I have drawn. If they start trying to coerce me into having a black box then they can stick it, as I am not being treated like a small child having every move of my driving monitored. They can either allow me to terminate the lease or come and take the car, or sue me, I don’t care. In my view, there comes a point when an individual needs to say, “No more”, whatever the consequences. That’s how tyrannical authoritarian governments come to rule, when the majority just rolls over and lets it happen.
Thats how these things tend to work. People think it will just be those with a disability, but once governments see that can get away with that, they’ll start rolling it out to everyone. They tend to do these things in drips and drabs so the majority accept it.
Look at how we are all being monitored more and more, supposedly for our own safety and then all our details gets sold off to any dick and harry.
April 7, 2026 at 11:01 am #351167With the way some of the public have responded, they’d much rather disabled people were left in ditches. This goes beyond Motability, though, I’ve seen people outright say they should stop giving benefits to disabled people altogether. When I asked one of them what would happen to those who require it as one of their only means of support, they said it should be down to family, and if they have no family, or their family doesn’t have the means to support them, then it’s natural selection. I am hoping it’s just bots online but I really don’t know.
This will be the Reform point of view. Ironically there are a number of Reform fans on this site. Turkeys voting for Xmas!

That description could apply to at least 3 of our major political parties (including our current government) and the only ones remaining don’t stand any chance of forming a government. Houston, we have a problem!

You are 100% however, as you stated if any driver under 30.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
