So Ive had new Kona premium ev for 4 months now and overall im pretty pleased with the choice. It has a hoist and scooter in boot with spae to spare, and leaves 4 good seats.(guess you’d get 5 in on short journeys like most cars, although i have to admit no-one has actually been in back yet.
Quite like the Dive Blue as well. It charges from home, although ive only done 700 miles or so. Seats are ok; a bit hard for me personally but such is life.(cant have it all for 800/900 inc hoist).
Economy is good , and now weather is warmer, local running like today which was a mix of motorway, A roads and some town work is returning well over 300 miles a charge. It can be quite nippy too in sport mode.

April 29, 2022 at 4:50 pm #183710I’d probably use a sharpie to paint a grille on it, but apart from the looks – one really can’t argue with the economy/efficiency.
Good review.

Sign of thing to come and a new era in the automotive industry @Rene so you better stock up on sharpie pens 🙂
Personally I don’t mind the grill-less look and makes cleaning much easier. How they will stand up to stone chips is another story but all EV seem to be taking the same approach. My only dislike with EV’s and the only look is I’m not a fan on filler cap position manufactures have adopted. But consideration to how electric chargers are positioned at services. Like anything it will grow on us and become second nature before long.
April 29, 2022 at 8:14 pm #183720Our Golf has the E-flap on the front left fender, perfect for our charger position, so we got lucky.
Also:
Loads and loads of examples. I don’t even need the grille, i just need something other than a big vertical slab of nothingness. The Model S doesn’t have a grille, still looks decent. Same with the ID3 etc.
With the Kona in particular, the reason i say “grille” is simply because the Kona PHEV has one, and is much better looking (in my eyes). What i really mean is “design”. 😛

I’ve ordered a Kona EV originally was due November but now been told it could be March.😖
I’m considering having a hoist fitted. I have an ultralight 400 but concerned if it will fit without losing passenger space in the back. Any experience out there?

August 19, 2022 at 12:51 pm #194701i dont know the 400 but have seen the 480. even fully dismantled, which is hard for me to do i doubt if it will fit, but it might. there are hoists that fit kona tho. mine is just a 2 way now.
i bought a folding scooter from care-co (the cheapest one at about 1k. sold my one a bit like the 480(also a care-co) for about 350. the folder fits well and stands on its little castor wheels so is manouverable in boot. the hoist lifts it up, i swing it out and hoist drops it to ground. although folders are relatively light they are heavy enough to be a fairly heavy lift into boot even for able bodied.

anyone considering an ev needs look no further especially if you have issues getting in/out etc.

Took delivery about 4 weeks ago and we have covered just over 700 miles to date.
Initially the MG was not on our radar as I had concerns about reliability issues and with the dealer network, we looked at many of the ‘Large’ SUV’s on the scheme of which we narrowed down to a couple of vehicles that met our needs all of which had AP’s in excess of £4k.
These high AP’s made us have another look at the MG what also helped was that the excellent dealer we used for the then current MB car had become a MG franchise.
We were pleasantly surprised by the MG on the test drive, had everyting my wife needed out of a car, heated seats, driving and parking aids, electronic tailgate and was big enough just to accomodate a hoist and a chair for a ‘reasonable’ AP.
Car is built very well considering its price, the cabin is a very pleasant place to be indeed, tactile and quality looking materials used, no hard plastics or looks like its been built to bargain price like a Dacia, in fact you could easily think you are sitting behind the wheel of a premium brand vehicle.
Outside the fit and finish is very good, the paintwork has a good depth and lustre while the panel gaps are good and the doors shut with a reasuring clunk.
Being the Exclsusive the equipment levels are exellent, luckily enough ours had the factory glass roof and factory tinted windows, sports seats are excellent and have plenty of comfort options (all electric), though for some reason no 360 camera only a rear view one (standard on both PHEV trim versions). Plenty of room in the cabin, especially with the panormic roof.
On the road it performs as you would expect, takes most ruts and uneven surfaces in its stride, handles very well and should be more than adequate for most drivers.
However as always there are trade off’s and as would expect the HS is not as fully polished as many of its more expensive rivals in particular the Infomation system could be better not as well laid or user friendly as some, Sat Nav system while OK i prefer to use google via the phone, I dont like the heater controls would much rather have a good old fashioned knob, also the info system has rebooted while driving leaving a blank screen.
Cruise control works fine but the controls are fiddly and as mentioned earlier the steering wheel controls would be better the switched around.
Though listed as a large SUV the HS is really only a meduim sized SUV, boot space is only average though as already mentioned taking the boot floor out makes a big difference.
Fuel economy is not the HS’s strongest point, we are currently averaging around 38mpg.
Despite all its niggles the HS is a lot of motor for the money and whats better is with the fit, finish and equipment you get you dont feel your in a budget brand like you do in a Dacia.
If you after a well equipped motor that drives well and is value for money then the HS is worth a look and should’nt be discounted by badge snobbery.
January 23, 2023 at 2:42 pm #207157A few pictures for you. I’ve only done 90 odd miles and first impressions are pretty good. I’ll give more feedback when I’ve got more miles under my belt.

In 2005 I suffered a brain injury which has left me with mental and physical disabilities.
Unfortunately I do get confused and get things wrong, so I apologise in advance.Suzuki Across PHEV

Nice choice 😁
I know what you mean, I keep looking at it and think bugger it’s getting dirty I need to give it a wash but at -3 it’s not going to happen 🙁. This is the third car I’ve picked up in the winter and it sucks.

January 24, 2023 at 11:45 am #207264First impressions. Mileage is just over 200 miles with some night driving. It’s a very relaxing drive and feels like you could drive it long distances, seats have a lot adjustment and feel quite comfortable even with only 200 miles, my old X1 sports seats took close to 1000 before I could say I was comfortable ish . Interior feels very well built with quality materials but the switch gear on the steering wheel ( indicator / wiper stalks) doesn’t feel as good as my old BMW X1. Now a bit more of a negative I hate the touch screen I’m so used to the idrive I’m struggling with it, I have rheumatoid arthritis which of course doesn’t help and I’m sure most people will have no problem with operating it, I’m sure in time I’ll get used to it.
That’s it for now, I’ll update a bit more when I get more comfortable with it.
