The early termination fee is £250 is that correct? After July VAT will push it up to £300? Still, to get rid if the car, not bothered about the gcb either.
Only for customers signing a lease after the 1st of July, customers who have a lease currently or will have one before the 1st of July will continue to pay £250 for the Early Termination Fee.
April 16, 2026 at 3:57 pm #353460April 16, 2026 at 4:18 pm #353461‘Course what we could ALL do is drive to how the black box is dictating- hear me out. So all those 50 mph zones that it thinks are 20 – we do 20 ( if safe ) etc if 20 % of the cars on the road suddenly start following this stupid black box ( I had one for a fortnight and it was dreadful and caused numerous problems) they’ll soon at least fix the stupid box or override the red alerts. A sort of ‘work to rule’ if you like.
I won’t be renewing.
April 16, 2026 at 4:47 pm #353467Our Suzuki regular get the speed limits wrong, if someone is dangerously parked it hits the brakes all by itself, then there is dodge the potholes or should I say chose the less dangerous one’s.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
April 16, 2026 at 4:59 pm #353468I would imagine a company as big as Motability must be like most other large company’s and have a largeish fleet of company cars for it’s high up management team, including the CEO, who are all being funded by us the customer’s/members.
I am looking forward to hearing/seeing the feedback from them on how they got on with the Drive Smart system in their company cars which were effectively financed by us.
Surely it is only fair to expect them to take the same care as us in driving Motability financed cars which will be resold with the proceeds, like all our resold cars, being used to fund Motability for our benefit.
Who better to have test driven the system, than the very people who are implementing it. As they give the Insurance contract to DL or or someone else. Did DL stipulate and agree the DE system in their tender.

Valid points, but I think you know the answer to that!
April 16, 2026 at 7:17 pm #353480Not only won’t the senior staff at Motability Operations be forced to have black boxes in their cars, but I bet that they aren’t banned from having premium brands either 🤔

Now thats not only worth filling in, but also its own thread.
April 16, 2026 at 8:10 pm #353486Jus filled it in. Very straightforward.
April 16, 2026 at 8:18 pm #353487I’ll start a new thread for the survey
April 23, 2026 at 8:46 am #353965Do people know how itll work if you have a substantially adapted vehicle if you’ll still have to pay vat on the AP? You dont need to do it if you were going outside of the scheme.
April 23, 2026 at 9:07 am #353966Isn’t it wonderful how all the so called disability “champions”and concerned MPs have rushed to the disabled side over this matter?
their silence is shameful

As far as I understand, if it’s adaptations that can’t just be removed or a WAV vehicle, then the VAT on AP doesn’t apply
April 23, 2026 at 9:41 am #353972This is where I get confused would a boot hoist, hand controls and transfer plates count?
April 23, 2026 at 12:44 pm #353984A boot hoist which is welded to the boot floor, imo, counts, as we didn’t pay vat on our private cars because the boot hoist was welded, permanent fixture, before we came down the Motability way but now … not sure we will stay.

April 23, 2026 at 12:49 pm #353985Why no choice?
The government claim to want to bring Motability more in line with commercial leasing. Fine, let’s do so.
If your advertised lease mileage allowance doesn’t fit, you have the choice to pay more and have 15,000, 20,000 or even more miles. Likewise, if it’s too much, you can save a bit by opting for a lower limit.
You can have an all inclusive lease, similar to Motability’s or you can opt to cover insurance and servicing yourself. Considering that Motability’s policy covers only their asset, it might be preferential for customers to have their own fully comprehensive insurance which covers contents and, in the case of EVs cables. This also means newer customers can maintain their NCB.
So, what is Motability’s options? Take it or leave it.
This is, in my view, where the action taken is discrimination. If you plan to make the scheme comparable with commercial leases, then make them comparable, with options that suit needs. Don’t just look at advertisements and decide that all leases are offered at 6,000 or 10,000 mile allowances.
We have been enjoying very comfortable conditions which gave people who can’t afford a newer, reliable car the means to get their freedom back by having a vehicle they can use without worrying about repair costs or getting finance whilst being unable to work. This was the purpose of the scheme, offered as “Worry Free Motoring”. If this is the purpose of the scheme, it’s now very easy to argue that it is no longer FIT FOR PURPOSE! Look at Motability related groups and forums and you see multiple instances of people seriously considering giving up their car because of the stress or unsuitability of these new rules. This can’t be called worry free. Now add in the Drive Smart System that Motability claim to be their own, completely unsuitable for disabled drivers needs inasmuch as the number of journeys day doesn’t take into account the need to drive relatively small distances because walking them just isn’t possible. That makes things like shopping a multiple journey event. Then there’s the one hour limit, live in the country and drive for an hour and you’re still nowhere near the hospital. Then there’s the NHS plan of putting specialists in regional hubs. These can be in cities several hours away, again no allowance or consideration that Motability customers are manyfold more likely to need these appointments.
Finally, their grant system is invaluable for wheelchair users who are faced with an Advanced Payment of tens of thousands for a fully converted vehicle. It is the profits Motability Operations makes from the other customers that make these grants possible, if the government of the day destroys the scheme for non wheelchair users, this support could suffer.
