RichWe need to order a new car (current one has already been extended) and are looking at the Outlander PHEV Dynamic providing we like the test drive. Has anyone gone from a BMW X1 (diesel) to one, how did you find it?
The nearest dealers to us are Hemel Hempstead, Edgware and Maidenhead. We could also visit Norwich as we’re up that way a lot. Has anyone used these, had a good or bad experience?
From what I have found I won’t get any discount on the AP and they don’t do add-ons. So I’m just looking for a dealer who has a good Motability department.
Also, I know a wall charger is best but has anyone used just the granny charger via an outside socket without any problems? I’ll be getting one connected to the fusebox and not spurred off an existing socket.

Although I haven’t bought from Mitsubishi in Hemel, the Motability salesperson I met with initially was quite friendly and showed me around the Mirage. I was expecting him to leave me alone but he stood by, keenly asking me what I thought of the car. Hoping that he would leave me, I told him I wanted to see the ASX alone but he was still in the background asking me questions. I left almost immediately without making any further queries and feeling very uncomfortable.

KarenjI pick my outlander up on the 11th. 2 weeks after ordering! Stocks are depleting fast. And you have to choose what’s available. Colours in the Dynamic ate now white, metallic white or Atlantic grey for no charge or the red for £270 I believe. Especially with the new lower AP. The motability specialist filled out all the forms knew lots about the scheme and was helpful but not in my face.
I’ve not had an x1 but I have had a 3 series an a3 and a Merc c220 and the outlander wipes the floor with them technology and comfort wise.

You will be ok with a granny charger, there are many thousand of Outlander PHEV owners who only use the granny charger, we use our occasionally when charging up at caravan sites or the daughters. It takes about 5 1/2 hours to charge up using the granny charger, the PHEV has a built in charging timer so you can set the charging to be off peak, Octopus Energy Go charge 5 pence kWh or Go+ for 6 pence kWh.
All Mitsubishi Outlanders have been UK stock vehicles for over a year, you cannot order any factory fitted extras, only dealer fitted extras.

RichThanks all.
Hemel no longer have a Motability specialist so can’t order a car through them. They don’t have a Dynamic we can look at anyway.
Been trying to contact Maidenhead to arrange a test drive without much luck.
There is Duxford but that’s an hour away. We might not have much choice though. We’ll be in Norwich in 3 weeks time (we actually pass the Duxford one on the way) but I think that might be too late.
It’s a shame you can’t phone up and order one!

RichAfter trying a couple of others we seem to be getting somewhere with Mitsubishi Guildford. They get great reviews for the Motability team too.
They phoned up and said they won’t have a car we can look at until the end of the week and we can pop down for a look.
He did say they are going fast so if it looks like there aren’t many left he’ll let us know. They also only have red left so another £270 on top. Would’ve preferred white or grey.
On the plus side it seems the good condition payment has increased from £250 when we got the X1 to £600, which we didn’t know about. So that’ll offset some of the cost.

KarenjPick mine up this morning. Will post photos. Am quite excited as this will make a huge difference to me. Am very much looking forward to getting as much electric driving out of it that I can whilst still having the comfort of a petrol back up for longer journeys.

KarenjAt only £500 more on ap have you considered a dynamic safety? They might have the free colours left and at an effective £230 (after you consider the 270 paint on the dynamic) might be worth all the extra video and adaptive cruise control you get. The drive and the basics of the car won’t be any different to the dynamic you try at Guildford. Good luck.

When you pick it up and drive it home it will feel very strange, you will be expecting some engine noise, but no just pure silence, have fun.

KarenjIt’s even better than I thought it would be @oscarmax !!! Got 28 miles on electric only.
Apparently there are 30 Dynamic models left in red only and 7 Dynamic safety models left in white only .

On the guessmeter, once you get used to the PHEV you will achieve around 32/33 miles, Richi Jennings Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV FAQ is a good site to start.
I use the PHEV in B5

Rich@KarenJ
I hadn’t thought of looking at the Dynamic Safety in the free colours, I emailed the dealer to ask.
We were told 30 in red for the Dynamic, is that for the whole of the UK then? They didn’t say! ?
May 11, 2021 at 8:30 pm #147846
KarenjYes that’s the whole UK. You’ll get one or the other model by Friday I’m sure, people who are waiting until June to order I don’t think have much chance.

RichThe dealer has emailed to say all Dynamics are now gone for Motability, only the Verve left! So much for letting us know if they get low! ?
It’s probably not worth getting the Verve.
May 14, 2021 at 9:18 am #148091I have the Design which is the next one up from the Verve, there is not a lot of difference between the two models, the only difference Apple Play (which I don’t use) are a rear camera as opposed to parking sensors. If you chose to go down the Verve route go for a metallic or pearl white, the basic white come with ugly black trims.
Verve £899 and Design £999, its only a lease car and to be honest I never use all the gismos.

RichNo Designs either! ☹️
I’m not sure about the 16″ wheels over the 18″ ones, no touch screen to link with the phone and I think the Dynamic seats are more supportive. Everything else I could leave as like you say they probably wouldn’t get used. The collision detection would be nice though, it works well on the X1.
Thanks for the tip on the white colour. Might go and look at one anyway as we need to see it in the flesh really. After the good condition bonus it’s only £299 AP.
May 14, 2021 at 10:12 am #148096Rich just a suggestion our local dealer Brindley Mitsubishi 01543 330798 you never no ?

Just tried them, only the Verve left for the whole of the UK. Not sure what to do now as we really fancied one.
May 14, 2021 at 12:15 pm #148104Fair enough Rich, if it was my decision I would still go for the Verve, my average over the past 11 months/5000 miles nearly 120 mpg, so big running cost to be made.
Rich have you not considered a Hyundai Kona Ultimate EV AP £499 ?

That’s the main reason why we’re looking at this to save on the running costs, especially with most trips being local. All of the other large SUV plugins have AP more than we’re willing to spend. So it’ll have to be a hybrid or stick with normal petrol/diesel.
I did look at the Kona but we struggle with the boot space on the X1 so with that being smaller it’ll be worse.
We’re having a look at the Verve next week before deciding whether to get it or not. Lack of infotainment would be a shame after using BMWs excellent iDrive but reading reviews for other cars (5008, CRV, RAV4) the systems don’t seem that great on those anyway.

I have wear hearing aid, I don’t bother with the cars infotainment, I just plug in apple ear pods into my apple iphone

KarenjGod. I LOVE this car. I’m loathe to do a review as it seems pointless if people can’t order one but it is COMFORTABLE, SMOOTH, quiet and ECONOMICAL. I put £30 in and have done 250 miles in one week. Range still says 220 on petrol as nearly all driving has been electric. Minor problem syncing phone which resolved when I realised I was being an idiot. I’m actually looking for reasons to go out in it, which was the entire point for me as I was getting very reclusive due to the sheer pain of driving our other car.

KarenjAlso my friend had an outlander which he’s just swapped for an ipace so he’s given me the Mitsubishi boot mat and fast charger. You really do find who your friends are and aren’t when sh*t hits the fan.

That’s good to read ?
We’re still waiting for a test drive, the one the dealer is getting has been delayed. There can’t be many left on Motability now!
May 20, 2021 at 4:35 pm #148669
Karenj@rich I’d just order one if I were you then cancel if the test drive is no good. Not something I’d ordinarily advise or contemplate but in this case with stock depleting it may be the only option ? I absolutely love it. The seats are so comfortable the drive and suspension is so good. I’m sure there are other great cars but I’m really glad I went for this one. The electric range on ev and eco gets me 28 miles, with petrol and regenerative braking usage. After a 100 mile round trip to Cambridge and a 60 mile round trip to milton Keynes (so petrol definitely kicked in) Total miles now 320, 180 left on petrol range for one £30 fill And daily charges at 15p kWh (waiting to switch to octopus this weekend 5p off peak) I’m sure someone smarter than me can work the mpg on that but it seems very economical so far. 3.5 miles per kWh
