Back to cars rather than Motability.

A genuine 7 seater from MG.  £34-37k for a 7 seater PHEV that’s got plenty of space, even if you’ve got 7 adults to get from A to B.

It’s not the best 7 seater but it’s far from the most expensive.  At that retail point, it’s only cheaper competition is the Tiggo 8, which is rather popular on the scheme.

As per everything Motability, there’s no guarantee it’ll join the scheme but, if it does, it’s reasonable to expect it to be affordable for most.

Europe should be getting worried, with the influx of respectable priced 7 seaters!

Mrs kezo and I went a walk around a local lake and noticed the Honda dealership was also a Chery dealer, so popped across after our walk to have a look. The Tiggo 9 is something else and really got my attention, but at £43k, whilst likely worth every penny, misses the mark by encroaching over the £40 bracket.

Europe should have been worried a decade ago at least.  When the legacy manufacturers decided the Chinese market was irresistible and agreed to work with local companies, they should have seen what educating them on how to build quality would mean.  When MG came back from China and established itself as a popular brand, they should have seen what would follow.

When a huge number of new names started showing some very well equipped cars from companies nobody had heard of, that’s when the European and American manufacturers should have paid attention.

Just think if that Chery was electric the £40k luxury car value would have been £50k😉😂

There’s going to be a lot of dealerships that were traditionally single brand that’ll now have that brand plus a Chinese one.

Well, Stellantis have gone into a joiht venture with Leapmotor to sell their xars worldwide

JLR  have a tie up with Chery and they are producing a car caloed Freelander in China.

Reason for both of these and many others joint ventures  is

              1) lower manufacturing costs, particularly workforce

              2) EUs 45% import tax

In tge UK, that is only 10%

Chery & JLR (CJLR) have had a 50:50 joint venture since 2012 producing JLR vehicles for the Chinese market. The Freelander EV portfolio will be built alongside CJLR’s existing model range.

JLR has confirmed that it will not stop Chery bringing the Freelander brand to the UK. While it will debut in China and will be followed by new models every 6 months, it likely it will be exported to the UK and Europe, but won’t be marketed by JLR or be sold in their showrooms in the UK.

The Freelander will be subject to import tax <45% if sold in the EU.

PSA group (modern day Stellantis) has had a joint venture with Dongfeng group since 1992, building the then PSA  group vehicles for the Chinese market. Stellantis and Dongfeng Group have announced a joint venture aimed at expanding Dongfeng’s presence in Europe. This partnership will see Dongfeng’s Voyah branded premium new energy vehicles (NEVs) being sold in designated European markets. The joint venture will be led by Stellantis and will leverage Dongfeng’s competitive Chinese NEV ecosystem and likely to be built in the Rennes plant in France and is expected to comply with EU’s regulations.

Volkswagen has been in China since 1978, with its first joint venture established in 1984. This partnership has allowed Volkswagen to establish a significant presence in the Chinese automotive market, becoming one of the largest foreign automakers in the country. has established a long-standing relationship with SAIC Motor (MG parent company), which includes joint ventures like SAIC -Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen. The Cupra Taviscan is built in China and shipped back.

Volkswagen has a strategic cooperation with CATL aims to create cost-effective battery solutions and enhance the local supply and european system.

BMW has established several strategic partnerships in China, including collaborations with Momenta (to co-develop ADAS systems) and Alibaba, to enhance its technological capabilities. Shenyang Jinbei Automotive Co., Ltd.: BMW China has also become a limited partner with Shenyang Jinbei Automotive, contributing to an industrial fund aimed at electrification and intelligent technologies. This partnership signifies BMW’s commitment to local investment and collaboration with state-owned enterprises to strengthen its supply chain in China.  BMW also has a partnership with Brilliance. BMW builds the iX3 in China for europe.

European auto manufacturers have  had longstanding partnerships in China for many a year, with numerous european models been built in China for the european market (even theDacia Spring), so I find it dificult to why Chinaese manufacturers shouldn’t have a pressence in europe and even be built in europe, which China is open to doing. After all, life isn’t a one way street!
