MB car collection advice?

Hi, I’ve received notification that my MB car is available end of the month. It seems to have taken an age. I’ve not contacted the dealer yet. The manufacturer order was placed at beginning of November although the dealer resubmitted the MB lease agreement beginning of Jan as AP halved.

I’m having a hoist and hand controls fitted. Is there anything I need to do beforehand, or on the day of collection? I’ve not leased an MB car for about 10 years, so can’t remember if there’s any checks I need to make or any questions I need to ask?

You must take your Motability PIN number with you. I think you need to take your driving licence with you as well, plus obviously the means to pay any outstanding AP / cost of adaptations. Dealers won’t accept credit cards, so take your debit card.

Prior to entering your PIN, it is essential to check that the car is exactly the precise model and specification that you ordered and has any optional extras that you ordered. Once you enter your PIN you have accepted the car as seen. You can reject the car prior to entering your PIN if the car isn’t right, as your contract only commences when you input the PIN.

Most of all, enjoy your car!

          Thank you!

There’s a slight issue re driving license which dealer is aware of although he probably assumes I’ve got it back from DVLA by now.

I sent off my 3 year DVLA medical license renewal in early October, but I’ve still not had my license back. This renewal has been different to previous renewals which were just rubber stamped. This time they wrote to my doctor, but locum doctor from mainland had to come to Isle of Wight on Feb 13th to do a face to face medical license renewal. He filled out form as I sat there. No problems whatsoever apart from lower limb weakness requiring usual hand controls which he wrote on the form. The DVLA have received the form back but it’s sitting in queue waiting for it to be checked. But DVLA say no probs drive under section 88 with same adaptions as previous and gave me section 88 letter.

So I’m hoping dealer will let me pick up car without driving license. Dealer does know about and has taken photocopy of my section 88 letter. And I’ve got letter as well

My license expired Jan 3rd. But when I ordered car I assumed I’d have my license back by now, I’ve not hadn’t any new medical issued since it was last issued. You might think I was stupid ordering MB car due to license expiring beginning of Jan but I really need a car to get back regularly to see my mum+dad who are in their late 80s and might not live much longer. And I didn’t think it’d take DVLA 6 months or more to renew license. It’s only lower limb pain/weakness due to stroke and requiring wheelchair nothing complicated. Had stroke more than 5 years ago and take daily meds to mitigate chance of another one.

A driving licence is only needed if someone else other than the customer or appointee is collecting and driving the vehicle away from the dealership.

What  you must take to collect your vehicle  is proof of identity. Although a driving licence would cover this, so will a passport etc.

Plus you will need your PIN.
