      I was wondering if anyone can help me, I’ve got my car on order and it’s meant to come anytime this month.

      When we ordered it we couldn’t put me as the main driver because even though I had a license it was suspended for 12 months, I surrendered it because of a seizure and it meant that I would be able to drive under section 88 when the 12 months seizure free was done and not have to wait for DVLA medical as they can take ages to issue licenses.

      We checked and put my mum as the driver and Motability said they could add me as soon as I was good to go medically.

      I am now fit to drive again and I have been trying to add me as the main driver, but Motability want to do a manual check, I’ve given them the access code for the DVLA, a copy of the pdf that shows my details etc but it’s still not good enough.

      They have said the following-

      For us to be able to check all information and pass the check can you please ensure you have sent over copies of the below

      1) Copy of the Confirmation of GB Driving Licence Details from the DVLA
      2) Convictions/endorsement page

      I have phoned the DVLA and Motability so many times now that I’m losing the will to live.

      I just don’t get what I am meant to do?? The DVLA can’t give me anything else and whatever I give to Motability isn’t good enough.

      The DVLA can only say I might qualify under 88 but I have to decide that myself which I easily do fall under it, today one lady at Motability said that I would need a license, she didn’t even seem to get what section 88 is for.

      Any ideas what I can do?

        Have you been speaking to Motability or the insurer Direct Line Motability (DLM)?

          DVLA Medical are based in Liverpool, it is a different phone no from DVLA Swansea, I had to contact them early last year, they were quick to answer the phone and extremly knowledgeable and helpful.

          Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

            Hi Oscarmax

            Don’t suppose you have that number still as I’ve tried a few times (given up now) to ring DVLA medical department to have a Code 20 removed from my licence but best I got was a one hour wait with others being an hour and a half and only to be cut off without even a choice of waiting.

            The number Motability gave me for the medical department was 0300 790 6801 but I found another 0300 790 6806 but all going into the same waiting queue that don’t give you a chance to wait.

            @kezo

            In the past when I had to deal with DVLA medical Motability were indeed very helpful in actually connecting myself with the medical department and MB themselves in a three way telephone call however on this occasion all I get from MB is “sorry we can’t help with DVLA problems”. Gave me the impression they can’t get through to DVLA either. I was told years ago that Motability have a person in DVLA for just for dealing with MB customers so maybe yet another cost cutting exercise or just another one of those fables to make the people feel good.

            With what @Tango is saying and my experiences with DVLA, or not as it were, makes me think they want us disabled drivers off the roads, along with the over seventies because were the ones causing all the deaths on the road where statistic say differently.

              I have found Motability have degraded since Covid, customer service staff don’t have the same level of care, as if they lack interest and couldn’t be bothered half the time and want justr want an easy life.

              I don’t believe the government departments inc DVLA want older people on the roads. The reason, I think that is there is so much pressure negative press and opinions from so call (brainwashed) think tanks surrounding elderly drivers, its much easier to just go with flow than have the balls push back agains’t it. The same can be said with Motability, you have only got to look at what happened from the pounding of the press, Rachael from accounts just bowed over and not to forget what the Daily Mail achieved in 2010.

              @Oscarmax
              , Hasn’t Liverpool closed and all medical enquiries now  responibility of Swansea (DVLA Medical Enquiries)?
