Does anyone know if you can use the tag only lane with our exemption?

I’ve just renewed mine and use the m6 toll a lot to visit relatives and I’m sure I recall the initial blurb stating that I had to use the payment lanes as normal but the barrier would just open ( which it does it’s great), but on Friday the toll was really busy with very long queues at all the payment lanes but the tag only lane was empty. I didn’t want to risk getting stuck if that lane didn’t accept our exemption so I queued with everyone else but I wondered if anyone here knew the answer? I’ve tried google but nothing really shows up.

I always use the first two lanes on the left out of habit. When it first went number plate recognition these were the two lanes we could use and I kept using them.

Ours expires next week, am I right in thinking you can’t renew you have to start a fresh application?

Yes, it changed to all lanes a couple of years ago.

You can’t renew, it has to be a fresh application and annoyingly, you can’t apply until after the old one expires so you’re left without a pass for a short while.

This is good information as I hope to be using the M6Toll next month. I have already registered and here is their email which confirms all of the above:

Thanks for setting up your Mobility Exemption. We are delighted to have you on board. Your pass is valid until10/07/2027.

Your pass is valid for12 months and we will remind you of the expiry by email. You will not be able to submit an application for your Mobility Exemption renewal until the expiry date has passed on your current one.

We use Automatic Number Plate Recognition at the M6toll, and you can use any lane at our main plazasapart from far rightlane, At our local plazas you can use any lane which will have the contactless sign or the B symbol displayed.

Should you change your vehicle it is really important that you let us know. If we do not have your correct number plate the barrier will not rise, and you will need to use an alternative method of payment for your journey.

Please note it can take up to 1 hour after receiveing this email for your vehicle details to reach rthe lane.

If you need any further assistance, pl ease do not hesitate to contact us. In the meantime, please click https://www.m6toll.co.uk/terms-conditions/ to view our terms and conditions.

              Many thanks

….I have already registered and here is their email…

How did you register? I’ve been through it 3 times this year so far, will be going again soon. Their website says V5, Motability letter or PIP…The new Scottish ADP is not listed.

                Cheers

We used Mrs Joe’s PIP letter but you can request v5 from your Motability online account. Though I’m sure they’d accept the Scottish equivalent of a PIP letter.

You can also apply for an exemption for the toll for the Tyne Tunnel

Far away is near at hand in visions of elsewhere.

Indeed. And this one is MUCH easier and quicker.  I have renewed mine in May by sending same blue badge I have (didn’t expire yet) and all was sorted in a day or two.

BTW driving this weekend again to my Geordies via the Tunnel.

I’ve had an M6 toll pass for some years now and saved a ton of money on my monthly trips from Blackpool to Worcester. Didn’t know you can use the TAG lane but it’s never been an issue using the other ones.

I can not remember which I submitted, the V5 (equivalent) or an ADP letter, I think it was the latter and I said it was PIP. Shake the tree and see what falls out, sorry to be so vague

Not to worry, will try the ADP letter, not the end of the world to pay, or can always cut across to the M1 earlier at Stoke on Trent to avoid Birmingham congestion. We stop at Trentham for a charge anyway.
