This might be the same in other cities in the uk .. Over the last two years Iv noticed that Glasgow city council are removing disabled parking all over glasgow , just last weekend when i went to Glasgow,  where there are lots disabled parking bays up from central station    there is now a bus gate so no disabled spaces.

At George square there were lots of disabled parking bays all around George Square  but most of them have been removed  and replace by taxi spaces , i called the council to ask why and was told delivery drivers and taxi drivers were complaining,i was told i could just park in a standered parking bay,  so that’s what i had to do the other day when i can back someone had parked so /?/???/ close i couldn’t get my car out and had to wait till they came back and moved, disabled drivers need  disabled parking spaces for a reason .

I was going to write to the council and ask them how many disabled  spaces they have removed over the last few years , dont know if they’ll tell me. So disabled drivers being penalized again …….

Martino, I used to park quite regularly about 15 years back, when you could park near most corners, however trying to park there now is horrendous, I was at an SDS Scotland meeting in the merchant city and could only get parked in an NCP car park, which cost me £18 for 4 hours.

You will be able to get the information from Glasgow City Council under a Freedom of Information request.

I was on the city centre tonight actually , went out with a friend for something to eat and we decided to drive into the city centre to see the Halloween costumes!

unfortunately for me there was so much traffic, so many road works and roads closed that I couldn’t take my eyes off the road for a second!

i lived in the heart of the city centre for about 10 years or more

couldn’t deal with it these days

i see you mentioned you were at a SDS meeting, I know Franks Law was supposed to go Live from 01/04/19 but do you know any local authorities that have actually implemented it yet?

If you are a Glasgow resident, it could be worth raising the matter with your local councillor and complaining directly to him/her. After all, it sounds like it is the council that is taking this action.

If your MP is half decent get him/her onboard as well (albeit we are about to enter a period of purdah with the forthcoming general election).

Also try and get disabled organisations, such as the GDA on board as well:

Martino & All Reader’s Living in Scotland, (although our friends down south are welcome to read it and contribute to it).

Frank’s Law is named after Frank Kopel, who was a well known Dundee United football player who suffered from Dementia and was charged by his local council authority for personal care.

His wife and various other Disability Bodies have campaigned against charging what was known as the Care Tax in Scotland and eventually won the right for anyone under retirement age to have the same right as pensioners who are not charged for personal care.

The Law was changed, to allow for people under pension age to get free personal care from 1st April 2019 in Scotland, for people who receive Self Directed Support. It was/is known as Frank’s Law after Frank Kopel.

However  I shall start an “Off Topic” section on Frank’s Law. later tonight. The Good & Bad News.
