I lost my Santander debit card testerday I’d been to Tesco etc I’ve phoned Santander and they have blocked my old card and sending me a new one says in 4 working days do you think I will have for the weekend ? I’m in state as this has never happened before to me when I get the new card can I use in straight away in Tesco etc ?

I too lost a card in Tesco. Luckily it turned up with their customer services.
When a new card comes you usually have to make the first purchase using your pin number .
After that contactless payments should start working as normal.
Possibly your bank may also ask you to phone an automated phone number first to confirm receipt of the card before it starts working. But that is usually just for credit cards.
Since it is only Tuesday there is a high chance it will come by the weekend. Are you in a position to go into a branch and get some cash? If a branch still exists that is !!

luckily I’ve got some cash hidden in draw my branch 5 miles is still open
I’ve just found my card was in my waste paper bin in kitchen but I’ve already cancelled it so sadly can’t stop new one coming ! Thankyou for your help
Think the easiest thing to do with your new card is use it in a cash machine, get a balance or take £10 out. You’ll confirm you received it and shouldn’t need to enter pin on first purchase. I haven’t used my card in ages, I pay with my iPhone all the time. Come to think of it I don’t even use cash anymore, only time I use cash is at 2 takeaways in Cornwall and 1 takeaway Chinese takeaway near me that still only accepts cash. I even use my phone to pay from drinks in the pub.

Loose the ablity to the use of cash, the government controls you and can see everything you do. |Thats my opinion lol.
My new card was ordered first thing Tuesday hasn’t come in post yet ! I will never happen admin as it will be in slot in my phone case !
Had my wallet/cards stolen in Majorca (Oct 2025), sitting on a bus with it inside a zippered shut pocket on my cross body bag, never felt a thing!.
It took an age to get a police report as local station was shut for the Winter. Had to go to Alcudia, police there said our hotel should have took the report and sent it to them, hotel had said they couldn’t do it. I went to a Santander branch to report it and they said no, nothing to do with Santander in Spain ??? I had to do it online!.
Took well over a week to get the replacement card, Nationwide were a bit faster.
Insurance were a PITA, can you prove where you got your Euros from?, no, I got them pre-brexit when there was a good exchange rate. Can you prove where you got your £’s from?, no, they were what I had in my wallet on the day we flew out. Got most of it back eventually but a really drawn out process.
Not all bad though, KLM lost our luggage when we did a transatlantic cruise from Lisbon, 12 days on a ship with no luggage isn’t fun!. My ex wife got hers back, it turned up in Tortola the day before we flew back but no sign of mine.
KLM eventually paid out for it but I had to find receipts for everything. On the good side, it then turned up about 4 months later, it’d been sitting in Tortola the whole time, so I got everything back as well as being paid for it!.

Off to Florida on Tuesday to take my Autistic son to see his only friend!, he now lives in Mobile Alabama so too far for me to drive but he and his partner and another gamer Jared knows are driving down to visit for a few days.
Back home for 2 days then taking my daughter to Scotland, Iceland & Norway, basically the same cruise I did with the ex wife in May. Home for about 2 weeks then off for a solo transatlantic, Southampton to Vigo, Lisbon, Madeira and ending up in Galveston. Then having a few days in Houston before flying back.
So far for next year I have another solo transatlantic booked for April/May, flying out to Miami and cruising back to Southampton. I may be taking my daughter on a Dec or Jan cruise to either the Canaries or a Spanish Siesta, then looking at cruising Alaska with the ex wife for her birthday in May.
This assuming I survive the Florida trip, the Iceland trip with my daughter (who hopefully won’t try and slice another toe off!) and the transatlantic on my own 🤣😂

My advice, best get acquinted with the ship doctor before anyone else😂

No card again today Monday be a week tomorrow absolutely disgusting is it Royal Mail ?
Royal Mail are a joke since privatisation. We don’t seem to get any mail for days on end, then we’ll get 8 letters on one day. It’s clear they are prioritising higher profit parcels at the expense of letters. I get Simply Cook recipe kits, they started getting delays using standard mail. They’ve changed this month to a fully tracked Royal Mail service, probably getting lots of complaints.
