There is a judicial challenge about this is ongoing – crowd funded. (Help is you can).It is argued that it is discriminatory in a disproportionate way to some users of the scheme. The impact assessment has not been completed correctly.
I take my son to college daily at 80 mile each day and this will work out with other trips to around 18000 per year. The thought of paying thousands additional 24000 miles at 25p = £6000 at the end of the lease will make it unusable for us.
Half baked ideas to save money that do not stand up to scrutiny.

I should be okay for the next 3 years if this lease is successful. If however, any judicial challenge fails, then its back to private ownership, only this time my 25 odd year no claims bonus won’t be available due to my current lease .

Whilst it’s true that we don’t accumulate No Claims Bonus with a Motability car, most insurers will still count your ‘claim free driving history’, which still brings your premium down considerably. Many insurers now give the maximum No Claims Bonus at 5 years anyway. I was amazed at how reasonable my private insurance turned out to be!
To be fair, Motability will probably allow the 60k miles per lease if you ask for it.
For most the 30k limit per lease is not affecting them.
They have always been fair with their customers.
But you guys will not know until next week.
I do not think it will be draconian, and woll be given a lot of leeway.

The update will explain who will be eligible, how to apply and when customers can request additional mileage support.
Motability says it will consider applications where additional mileage is needed for essential healthcare, education or employment. It will not consider requests for holidays or leisure travel.

How to ask us to review a decision if you disagree with the outcomeThe original concept of Motability in 1977 was never designed to limit the disabled Motability customer from fully integrating and participating in leisure or not being allowed to go on Holliday’s, which due to carer availability and care budget cost’s, may mean the disabled customer, going on more but shorter stay holiday’s. It was to assist both of these essential and equality needs and rights.
The only thing Motability should be congratulated on is their hard work and efficiency. The Budget was announced on 25th November 2025 ( which Motability must have been pre-warned about the changes) and Motability can’t inform their customers fully until a week after the go live date of 1st July 2026.
What an unfair, poorly thought out and totally incompetent mess.
Surely the idea of Motability keeping the annual increase of PIP, was to cover the increase in costs, which has given them a healthy bank balance.

The Motability Scheme remains our biggest priority, and the main way we support disabled people to travel around the UK. Beyond the Scheme, transport is complex, with many different organisations and decision makers involved locally and nationally.
So, in developing our new strategy, we consulted with disabled people, our partners, other organisations working in accessible transport, MPs and our own employees to understand the barriers people face when accessing and using transport.
We identified barriers across five transport themes. Our strategy will carry out activity across six areas to help us achieve change in each transport theme.
We will aim to spend up to £650m across our charitable work and organisation over our five-year strategy period. This includes £50m in grant-funding for other organisations. “
@kezo “we consulted with disabled people” – I always like this part. For example, our Council “consulted with disabled people” and decided to cancel free parking for the disabled people.
