Well the cars still making me smile, and more than living up to expectations. %k miles in just under 2 months!
So, whats the verdict…
No range anxiety, EVER, I was initially charging at every opportunity, and trying to keep the battery as full as possible, but I don’t worry anymore. Charging on a 50kw DC charger, I get around 1% charge per minute on average, so 20-80% in around an hour max, 80-100% takes around another 90 minutes, and just not worth it.
I have been tracking costs closely, and one thing I didn’t appreciate was the loss in charge that you get from charging, getting 10kW out of a charger doesn’t mean that’s what gets stored in the battery, it’s working out at around 8% lost in the process. The cars onboard displays tell me that over 5k, I’ve averaged 4.5 miles/kW, but the amount of energy I’ve put into the car actually comes out at 4.14 miles/kW.
That said, it’s still ridiculously cheap, running costs so far are:
4975 miles driven and 256 left in the battery
Cost per mile 1.98p
Total fuel bill £103.60
The summer seems to be here at last too and the economy of the Kona seems to be really kicking in, 4.7miles/kW gives 300 mile range, 5.3 is 339 miles.
Still wish the car remembered the last settings you chose, there was a better clunk when shutting the doors and Apple Car play was wireless (It is in the current version), but other than that, the car is exceptional, I just hope there is something available on the scheme to at least match it in 3 years time!
