Had my test drive in the Kia Soul ev today.  All I can say is tardis.   What a great little car that isn’t little at all for passengers.  My son is autistic and still growing .  He sits in the back and leg room and head room are both plentiful.  Much better better than in my current Honda Civic .   The motability specialist unfortunately told me that there is a 26 weeks lead time right now and that it is moving to a 2022MY which will be badged as “max” not “1st edition” anymore .   He had a quick scout through the spec and only found 2 differences but I’m sure there will be others.  So new Kia badges front / back / steering wheel and key fob.   Wireless CarPlay and android auto.  My change date is 20/12 so I’m expecting motability to send my letter sometime in September  so I should be able to take advantage of the low AP.  I believe Q1 was £3499.  Q2 was £1999 and Q3 £999.   I also test drove a ID3.  Family pro performance it was trendy and clean the seats were better than I expected as was the sound system given it’s only 5 speakers all in the front but the rear head room could not compete.

Forgot to mention, they are also arranging the installation of my charging point through PodPoint

Wow that’s quick.  I like the blue .  Really suits the car .  When my motability letter comes through I’ll also be ordering but I’m going for the white my current car is blue so fancy a change .   Did the dealer confirm which model year you’ll receive? Also podpoint.  Is that through motability? I thought every installed charger was BP pulse?

I love mine, truly is one of the best cars i have driven aside from my old Audi Q3 quattro. Lots of people think its small but like you say it is very tardis like and with the boot lid in the lower position it can swallow luggage like any car. I paid the full AP of 3k and i would again if im honest but at just 999 its an absolute steal. Mine is a MY2021 so again slightly different from the original First addition, it has the blue soul badges to the side pillars and a few tweaks inside but they are only cosmetic really.

I collect ours this morning, 2 hrs to go…Neptune Blue for me too, think it looks great.

We ordered it on the 8th June.

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

It will be the 1st edition car, which is great for us as I imagine the Harman Kardon will be an expensive option on the 2022 model.  The Dealer, Gravells of Abergavenny, confirmed that PodPoint will contact me eight weeks before delivery, for a site visit & then it will be fitted 14 days later.  £999 is an absolute steal IMHO.

    Hi Mark

Yes the seats do fold flat, and the parcel shelf stores under the boot floor. Fit a washing machine in there easily.

so I want to see the Soul today and sadly of no use at all for our need , but what a terrific car beautiful spec colour combination  has everything plus I did check on line and there are at least 30 unregistered in the UK if you need a car quickly in fact the dealer I visited had 4. I cannot recommend it enough just wish I could make use of it.

I’ve wondered about stock cars given that there are no factory options my dealer told me 6 months lead time.

I looked on auto trader and there are loads of brand new ones

maybe he was quoting me on the 22my.  My understanding is it will be called a “maxx” not “1st edition”. He said new Kia logo badges and wireless CarPlay are only changes

Does the soul have the same Hyundai behaviour in that the handbrake auto hold functionality has to be re-toggled to ON every time you turn off and restart the vehicle?

Tim I have the 21 Soul and on mine you put it on when you stop, but goes off automatically  when you start up and engage reverse or drive.

Thanks Daf, so auto hold (the switch) if enabled will always auto hold even after restarting the car? It’s not a case of pressing the button at every startup to use the feature for the duration of the journey? That’s the Kona behaviour.

Hi Tim, I think the controls must be different in the Soul. To start, engage footbreak, press start button and then when you engage Reverse or Drive you can hear the handbreak release. When stopping, lift rocker switch to engage handbreak, which again is accompanied by a specific sound, press park in Centre of gear selector and finally press “off”.

Not the best at explaining the mechanics but hope that helps.

Yes it is the same, auto hold has to be engaged each time you use it after the ignition has been switched off. Annoying but you get used to it after a while.
