Hey all
On Thursday I have had catarract surgery on my right eye. Done via SpaMedica on behalf of the NHS.
So at the moment I can’t see much, other than fog in my right eye. So no driving until I can read a number plate at 20mtr’s. So I am house bound until I can legally drive again.
As far as the procedure went, it was a breeze. No pain as the but local anaesthetic eye drops in. 15 minutes and it was all done. All I felt was a bit of pressure but no pain.
Now it’s 2 lots of eyedrops 4 times a day for 4 weeks then a follow up with an ophthalmologist at my optician’s

Oh goody!nWell I say that because I’m booked in on 12th Feb for iStent and cataract on my right eye also and to say I’m bricking myself is an understatement. Given the amount of ops I’ve have had, I can’t believe how scared I am lol, so be nice to follw your journey and have someone to talk to:-)
I have secondary glaucoma from an accident many years ago and have been offered iStents, which will hopefully remove the need for eye drops however, they wont do the op without having catarct done, even though, I don’t have cataracts🤔
I would have thought after 24/48hrs your vision would have cleared?
January 16, 2026 at 10:31 pm #332351Well done 🙂
Does this mean we can get away with posting naughty stuff while you can’t read it properly? 🙂
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
January 17, 2026 at 1:04 am #332355i had both eyes done back in 2003 and 2004 one eye each time of couurse.developed suddenly over 4 weeks reall scary at the time and i had to pay for the first one as the wait time was over a year.even though it had developed so fast i was almost blind within 6 weeks.
both ops were a breeze as you say and the 2 weeks of drops were pretty easy. afterwards i only need readers now after havng glasses all the time from 5.

Don’t be scared! It really is staight forward kezo you wont feel a thing. I guess the reason for cataract op is that they will use the same incision to put the Istents in, so a two for one job.
My vision is getting better each day kezo, So I am not at all worried (yet) lol.

Things have moved on from 2003/4 with more private contractors like SpaMedic have really reduced waiting times dramatically.
From being referred by my optican, it only took 5 weeks to get my assessment done. However. I was delayed due to severe ear infections and antibiotics cancelling the proceedure 3 times. But it;s a fast service now, at lease in my heath trust.

Previous car:Peugeot 308 GT Premium 1.2 Pure tech Petrol.January 17, 2026 at 12:46 pm #332400yes where i had it done its now all contractors and its a pretty quick turn around.but at the time it was pay or wait and i needed to drive as it was a 30 mile commute every day.
even so i was gobsmacked with the op after all the drops etc to then have an eye test and be told i didnt need glasses for driving/distance was mind blowing, took a while to get used to. even now i forget and stand to leave still wearing my readers and wonder why everythings blurred.
the improvement especially if you needed glasses before the cataracts is awesome.

Did you suffer gritty feeling in eye after and did they give you some dry eye drops for it or tell you to get some if needed?
February 11, 2026 at 6:05 pm #337779@Kezo Good luck 🙂
I have some spare pants if you need them!, almost 3 months after going on an 11 day transatlantic cruise and having my suitcase not even get to the ship it finally got back to me last week!. It’s had a nice holiday sitting in Tortola (British Virgin Islands).
Weirdly they rang my ex-wife on WhatsApp (who I took with me in case I was ill again!) asking if she had my contact details!!. My luggage tag was still attached to the case and inside was the usual A4 sheet with my details in huge print! They’d not even tried to open it!.
KLM had paid up for the contents back in early December so I’d already replaced the case and most of its contents so now I have extras!.
I may need some extra pants as I’m off to have a 3cm lump, hopefully just a cyst, taken off the top of my head on March 2nd, they reckon 40mins, I told them Dr Pimple Popper could do it in under 10 🙂

Previous car:Peugeot 308 GT Premium 1.2 Pure tech Petrol.February 13, 2026 at 9:22 pm #338124They decides not to proceed with stents and just did my cataract, I didm’t have and said he will discuss another proceedure instead at the follow up appointment in 6 to 8 weeks.
Must say, Im far from amused and would have prefered take my chances with the istent, if they didn’t work no harm would have been done and I carry on taking drops, as I have decided. It will alsways be on back of my mind whether stents would have worked fully or partially with even a reduction in glaucma drops, but he took that option away, even though studies suggest there would have been some effect.
Feeling well today with no adverse effects, which is the main thing 🙂
February 13, 2026 at 9:49 pm #338125Bugger about not getting the stents kezo. But pleased that you survived the procedure.
