The Ioniq 5 has gone in for an actuator for the active cooling flaps, an item that on back order. In the meantime I’ve been given a temporary Jeep Avenger from Europcar until they can give me a suitable EV.
This is 2008 sized and I’ve had several of those as courtesy cars. Given the two should be the same size, I’m surprised to be struggling to fit in this Jeep. The seat is as far back as back goes and my legs are still bent beyond what I’d find comfortable, however, the seats themselves offer the support you’d want. If you’re a 6 footer or bigger, I’d strongly suggest having a look at the Compass if a Jeep is a brand you’re determined to get. I’m not at 6 foot tall anymore and there’s practically no space behind me for anyone bigger than a toddler. It’s a smallish crossover SUV type thingy so width isn’t fantastic but a family of 4 should be comfortable enough as long as nobody’s too tall.
The tech is acceptable (I’m guessing they’ve only got base spec for hire cars) but it’s a long way what’s on offer in similar size BEVs. There’s no sign of seat heating, electric tailgate or powered adjustment of anything other than the windows. There’s ACC and lane keeping as well as the speed limit recognition, although the bongs are very easily drowned out by the reasonable stereo.
Im not going to comment on the engine power as I’m used to a fairly pokey EV and everything with an engine feels hard work, especially as I’ve got to remember there’s gears. 🤦🏻
All in all, for a small family, it’s ok. For a larger family or if there’s a tall gene in the family, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. Maybe a slightly less generous boot would have helped with passenger space.
