Is This Why Tesla Are Not On Motability

We are seriously thinking of buying an EV and coming off the scheme. I got a quote for the basic Model 3, with full no claims, parking on a driveway in a half decent area, they wanted over £1300. I changed the car to a Skoda Enyaq and the quote came down to £600. Apparently a Model 3 accelerates faster than a 1990 Ferrari, there are also issue with delays in the supply of Tesla spares. When we do buy I doubt it will be a Tesla.

Might also be to do with the cost of repair. EVs are being readily written off if there’s any damage to the battery

Whils’t I do like some of the Tesla’s especially the twin motor performance ones, I do think you can get better for your money looking else where and probably with a lesser chance of it spontaneously combusting!

Or you could wait for one of these:

That’s a very nice looking car @kezo what is it? Tesla certainly do look sparse inside, the main reason for wanting one is the charging infrastructure but I think we’re going off the idea now. We’re still planning to buy, but not a Tesla.

Fully agree with Wigwams comment, compared to other cars Teslas are horrendously expensive to repair, generally costing into the thousands due to the way they are built.

@Jojoe It’s a BYD Han.  Great looking car. Reason I write “car” in bold is because that’s what it looks like. My favourite EV is the BMW i4, because it looks like a regular car (which is basically is).

Maybe it’s an age thing, but I don’t like the look of EVs. It’s as though the designers were told “make sure people can distinguish this new car as an EV”. I understand that they don’t need a front grille, but to my eyes, they look better with a grille. For e.g. the Polestar 2 did a good job with it’s “fake” grille. The new Polestar 2 has this grille blanked off and I think it looks worse for it.

                  @kezo unfortunately there’s no point in waiting, they’re based on the brand’s previous-generation e-Platform 2.0 which isn’t compatible with right-hand drive layouts.

Build quality and design on Tesla’s is junk.

I watched a vid where a guy in the US was quoted $16k by Tesla after a bang on the undertray damaged a battery coolant nipple.

The garage in the vid fixed it for a few hundred dollars.

With that kind of silly repair bills it explains why the insurance is so high.

All cars are horrendous to repair. It is of no consequence whether it is an EV or ICE car.  It is academic

as pretty soon – ALL cars will be EV’s.

Farley the CEO of Ford has said there will be no dealerships in hte future and all sales will be online.

I guess the dealerships will soon become 2nd hand car dealers.  The same with petrol stations – they will be gone as well. Probably repurposed as charging stations.

@gilders Read somewhere BYD has built a RHD factory and its expected end of year beginning 2024, probably more like 2025 and have got to make do with the Atto3 for now like Aus.

Nio are are bringing the ET5, ET7 and EL7 and its battery swop station sometime this year/early 24.

Not sure if I’m keen on battery swop stations!

Not if Germany, Italy and a few others get their way, which looks like they will!

Or the rest of the world.  Only Europe and California are obsessed with EVs (and China of course, for different reasons).

has done an article on why Teslas are expensive to insure.

                                seems

                                1) Thatchamnrate their security poor

                                2) Acceleration I,e, speed insurance companies see lots of accidents and claims in the first two weeks of ownership (Porsche provide driving, lessons on some of their cars)

                                3)poor design

                                4) Parts supply

Yet the Ionic 5/EV6 are only 0.7secs slower 0-60 times and are insurance group 39, yet a model 3 is around 10 groups higher.

The 64kw Kona EV 7.9s 0-60 but still insurance group 24, double that of a Kona hybrid.

For comparison My last bike 2012 R1 3s a 0-60 and was only group 17.

The biggest factor for EV’s commanding such high insurance groups, is down to the slightest bit of damage to the battery and in most circumstances the insurer would wright it off.

the story of ev is debunked about being written of, axa and other europeon insurers stated that a shunt that would damage the battery would also send a ripple down the chassis which is the crumple zone on ice cars, which would write them off too… there is so much anti ev stuff out there now. But if you do your reasearch and check they right sources they can debunk it for you.
