So really Strange journey, I though I will be saving for own car to stick to my fav brand bmw as choice was limited and I did not want to pay out over 3000 in extras, so after umming and ahhing I decided to go for the tiguan, I took a test drive last month and well I was a bit underwhelmed coming from a bmw tbh, also test drove many others. Then I thought well, I might as well take the plunge on a tiguan r line tech as a nothing but a bmw will feel like one to drive. I got the car in record time (sitting at port).  so from enquiry to pick up was 5 days only.

So After a week with it, lets just say I am over the moon with the car, all the tech is nice to have, especially the ACC (something in bmws that is in a 1250 pack!) I have not had one ache in joints from driving on a motorway yet, back starts hurting, just use the lumber support it helps (another extra in a bmw only with electric seats). So in a sense I am in agreement and see why every there is a tiguan army developing here lol.. its a well made and relaxing drive and very comfortable even in r line guise.

The boot height clearance in the Tiguan/Kodiaq/Tarraco is too low for me to get my powerchair in and the sloped tailgate mean it makes the boot length way too short for my scooters as well.

Regarding the annoying beeping, I went to a friends garage who is a car electronics genius and he turned off the beep for the boot open and close and for the sliding doors opening, couldn’t turn it off for the doors when closing as it’s locked out for safety, also changed car region to rest or world so now I have large MPH readout on centre MFD instead of small kmh and now my door mirrors auto fold when you hold lock button on remote for 2 seconds.

I have a motorised chair I think it’s called a foldalight fits pretty much any boot, folds up like a buggy.

Rang is about 15 miles but you can carry and add extra charged  batteries.

Even charge the battery pack in the car on route.

The chair sits one side off the boot, the dog ,shopping has about 3/4 of the rest.

He’s a 50lb bulldog can rest his chin on the side window or back window frame.

we down graded from a people carrier but don’t rule out the touran if need slightly more room, very practical cars.

Our tigg as global opening and closing of sunroof windows and folds mirrors?

Thought it was standard on the mk2.

Nah, the global open/close does windows/roof but not mirrors, that is new & why I had it added.

I have a Handicare Puma 20 with uprated motors & batteries(6.5mph/24miles) plus modified armrests/controller mount/drinks holder/footrest so it’s non dismantlable(if that’s a word) and is larger than average + it weighs in at 135kgs so ramp entry only, there is only about 1 cm clearance on the roof when getting it in/out!

Once in with ramps beside it you can still load a lot of shopping but I tend to use row 2 for that.

I have a larger chair too, plus crutches and a walking frame, but I can’t drive all the time it depends  on meds.

But my wife bought this smaller foldable chair last year it fits in the boot of my daughters Mini Cooper?

Plus without the battery fitted it’s weighs not much more then a child’s buggy but still has all the functions of my bigger chair.

I never knew global close/open was a new feature on the Tiguan, our last touran had it fitted too. What you said you had fitted means nothing to me I’m not tech minded.

Does your Tiguan have the comfort seats? Not sure when they fitted them? But they have extendable seats too that support  my thighs, not like with sport seats as they don’t have a gap in the upholstery making it more comfortable, on the days I can drive. Plus of course a massage function which I find bliss. Especially with the heat from the seats.

My daughter works from home so does most of the driving.

Also is my unpaid carer, plus will come along for help in and out, the small chair stays loaded up for if I go out in the car, as my wife works full time.

I just meant the auto fold mirrors is new, on mine it was just a twist on the mirror adjustment knob.

Mine is the Alhambra and has the 12 way electric seats but no massage or extension features. ?

I have bought a titan powerchair that the seat removes completely which does fit in smaller boots but it’s not as good to drive or as comfortable to sit in for long periods.

The numbers look right on this car anyway unlike the Zoe? No I can’t let it go!?

Base model is £25K three years old worth about £16K with AP of around £1K.

My SEL Tiguan certainly has the door and boot opening thingy, and the auto fold mirrors.

The driver’s seat only, has the manual squab extension, but because of the bit of electric wiring, regarding the massage function, doesn’t have a drawer like the passenger seat has!

The grandkids love the picnic tables, and the separate heating controls in the back, and as they are different ages and sizes, the fact that the back seats slide forward and back  ( 2 & 1 ) and that the backrest angle is adjustable on all three seats, gives them individual seat positions really!

The parcel shelf can be incorporated into the floor, if height is necessary in the boot, or by sliding the back seats about 3 inches forward, will slide into to gap behind the back seat, and is quite secure- a tonneau cover would have been better than a solid shelf?

In our last vw we took the boot tonneau cover out too after a while. As it just got in the way.

Like on the Tiguan if you need to fill the boot space with just things like Christmas car torch things, hi viss jackets, bulb kit, first aid kit, breath teaster, then picnic blankets, dog bowls and toys. Spare lead? Rain coats (fold up) umbrellas of all shapes and sizes again probably forgot lots.

So the floor stays level and the the boot cover in a zip up case (with the mats) as my old touran rubber mats fitted.

So the next owner (maybe me) will have a brand new set of mats and new luggage cover.

My grandkids love the sunroof. The rear folding tables ( but our last touran had similar but no cup holder) and one the led light show when you switch on and they do they’re check and self corner He’s into computers and electronic gizmos.

One also loves to play with the rear seat heaters and the rear air con.

He says my son needs a new car, he’s got a quashqai.

My daughter has a new jag f pace which puts the Tiguan to shame in my eyes.

But my granddaughter still thinks granny and grandads vw Tiguan is nicer to ride in? And loves the sun roof. ?

my only downside I have found in the week is the sills, get scuffed, so I have ordered a set of non vw (because the vw ones are a rip off) and all stainless steel.

funny, still despite it nor mattering one bit by the leds in the door, on all makes I have had previously they lit up when lights came on, on vw I think the centre is in the dash and they only come on when that area gets dark, I have also noticed though as dash is a lcd, the brighter you have that affects when they come on, like if you have full map view and leave it not to switch at night (so not auto and just daytime version) they don’t even come on as the lcd is that bright the sensor must think its daylight lol. last part is not a complaint, just an observation

                            Rico

on ours you can adjust each led section on the infotainment

also you can adjust how sensitive the led auto lights come on.

But im not really one for adjusting things, unless I have too.

I just leave it as the dealer set it up during the walk round at collection.

I thought the lighting sensor for everything was all in the windscreen?

I presume that’s the case with interior lighting as most vws do it from dash, but in my menu under lighting section for ambient I only have a brightness and footwell and door selection.

I think that correct on the old type dash the sensor is near he 7k Rev number.

yes you can adjust if the nav lighting changes early, late or medium.

I cant say I’ve noticed what time the led strips come on I just i or there on when it’s dark out?

yep the LEDs in footwell, door and sill only come on when its night out, not via sensor as the head lights do, I do think its in the dash still for these, i suppose i could test next time were out at night by shining my mobile light at dash when the led door lights are lit.

I am not saying I do, I just got very curious after they did not turn on first 5 days of ownership (as I did not drive the car at night, just late enough for auto headlights to come on) at first I thought mine were faulty, so I went out to the car when it was pitch black and they lit up then, this is what makes me suspect they have their own sensors, rather than share the headlights one.

                                          That makes sense now

for me I’ve either used it daytime or nighttime so never noticed.

I now the Ford Focus’s I had didn’t come with bulbs in thr footwell? Tight sod.

So two LEDs added and they just worked off thr door switch.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if there is another sensor on the screen still.

Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0TDI R-Line Tech is £2899 AP, you’d only have to order a set of front & rear mats  to get it to just over £3k.

If you wanted to hit up the options list you could easily add a few grand to that.
